My live journal friends really do deserve more than this formal letter, but here it is. This is the announcement that I've been waiting desperately for weeks to make...

Dear friends, family, bands, media and other loved ones,

I'm very proud to announce that as of January 1, 2009, I am now a partner and co-owner of Small's Bar in Hamtramck. Mike and Natalie Mouyianis and I are looking forward to bringing the best in local and national talent to Hamtramck, as well as providing a stellar environment for neighborhood drinking and socializing seven days a week.

You can expect to see a lot more of Dave Malosh and I behind and in front of the bar at Small's from now on. The bombastic rock shows you are used to seeing at Small's will surely continue (Turbonegro, The Melvins, Eagles of Death Metal, Trash Brats and more!), and will be joined by an influx of up-and-coming local talent of all kinds.

While the Belmont will remain one of my favorite hangouts, I will no loger be the booking manager there, or a bartender. I wish Darren and Mark the best of luck, and I thank them. It's been a really interesting and fun five years, and I'm sad to not be a part of the Belmont in this capacity any longer. I'm sure it won't be unusual to still find me there on Wednesdays nights for karaoke, though, or just in having a drink with Belmont bartenders (and friends) Paulette, Laura, Heatherley, and Tait.

I'm also taking this time to end my three-year run as co-host of Detroit Local 101 on Riff. My last show will be this Tunesday. Listen in at www.riff2.com. Suzy Cole will continue with the show.

From this point on, bands interested in playing Small's can e-mail me at melody@strangleholdbooking.com

Thank you -- see you at Small's! Come down tonight for a celebratory drink with me!

Melody

PS -- Yes, I will still be writing for The Detroit News as my 9-5 day job!
