Okay, I was just reading the article posted by teegertheelmur and thinking about the so called "emerging" church. Now I'm not against the idea of restructuring the way we do church, sitting on couches, having discussions, drinking cofee instead of sitting in pews. I'm not against loud worship music or any of that stuff. But I am somewhat concerned about where this movement is leading in SOME churches. I've seen the scriptures tossed out the window for relevant teaching, and sermons become dumbed down to the point where no one is challenged. I've also been a part of a relevant church where scripture is used more than in a traditional setting. So, I"m not saying this is every church. But, I think when scripture is thrown out the window, questioned without providing answers (because I don't believe questioning is wrong if you find answers), makes for no foundation for truth. When a foundation for truth is not constantly being laid out on a daily basis its easy to be decieved. Anyways, small ramble, but I think the "relevant" church may need to be incredibly careful at how they do this thing, because if they become to much like the culture there will be no difference in them and the world. Which we are CALLED to be different. Post modern thinking seems to be creeping in a little to much, becuase some churches are beginning to stress your relationship with Jesus is yours (which it is), but they begin putting grey area as to how your walk looks and whether you believe the accuracy of scriptures... etc. That's scary to me, because without a foundation for truth... people will be blown backwards and forwards by the circumstances in their lives.
Just small concerns, because I believe this "movement" can be incredible and God is definatly working and moving through these churches. They just need to tread carefully.
