I can't help you with the book you are looking for but as far as suggested reading goes a few of my favorites from school were: Lord of the Flies, Ethan Frome, The Great Gatsby, Death Be Not Proud, 1984, Animal Farm, and Of Mice and Men. There are loads more, lots of really good short stories that I can't recall, but those are the ones I remember being the best.
The book you're looking for doesn't ring a bell, sorry.
As for "classic" books that kick ass, well there I can help you (I like them all, but I've starred my favorites). *The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemmingway The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers *The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger (actually I love all his work) The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood The Plague and The Stranger by Albert Camus *One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez The Color Purple by Alice Walker *The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut
I'm kind of a whore for books, so if you need more suggestions...
thank you! I actually managed a few of those, out of curiosity, if not scholarship. The Handmaids Tale is still one of my faves. But most of them are new for me. I appreciate it! =D
