a 2005 survey

edit: Totally didn't know Jen was doing the same thing! Coolness.

I was gonna be a follower and use Josh's mold, but I was having trouble remembering the earlier months, really just because I think in school years more than calendar years. So I went back to check, and I found a survey I took around this time last year (http://www.livejournal.com/users/melodramaticme/11299.html) Thought it'd be a little more interesting to compare this year to last year.

1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
I was in a musical! I'm pretty sure that was my theatre debut...not counting spring fest. Full length, baby!

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't know that I ever made any official ones. One was probably to procrastinate less. If you look at some of my past entries, you'll see how that worked out for me.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No, but I know two people from work who are pregnant. (March-ish! woo!)

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Apparently my father's uncle's mother-in-law died the other day. Couldn't pick her out of a line up for my life.
(Funny story actually -- my parents made a shiva call, and my dad ordered a plate of meat from Rocky's...turkey, swiss cheese, provolone cheese, salami, ham...)

5. What countries did you visit?
Canada! :o)

6. What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?
(Umm...probably more friends at Bing <--my answer from last year. If that was a new years resolution, I kept it! So for this year...)
6b. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
I think I'm gonna go with SLEEP. lol

7. What date from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
*We don't remember days, we remember moments.* ~Cesare Paveseand
The moments I remember? It's not really fair because the latter part of the year is DEFINITELY more in my head than from January to Julyish...but last Christmas break was awesome, the Chinese Buffet excursions, Lake George, the Canada trip, the camping trip, finger painting, halloween! (or, rather, the Friday night before), and absolutely without question doing The Boys From Syracuse, just to name a few.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Making a lot of awesome friends. YAY for my 1Q girlies...and the 1Q posse.

9. What was your biggest failure or disappointment?
I'm gonna stick with the one from last year, because sadly, it's worse now... :*( "Probably losing touch with some Greeley friends...I miss you guys...I'm sorry if I suck at staying in touch.. :o("

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
haha...I got sick on new years. AGAIN! Nothing major though. I got the flu in like February, and Blitz is awesome for bringing me Nyquil! (And doing a puzzle with me...3!)

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Probably my computer. I love my lappy :o) Oh! And season 1 of Six Feet Under.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
my 1Qers

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
A certain ex of someone... (and little disappointments in people here and there, you know how that goes.)

14. Where did most of your money go?
I still like my answer from last year: "??? It just sort of flew away! My personal money: wal-mart. How sad...lol And obviously my family's money: the bureaucracy they call Binghamton, where they charge you a $75 theft fee!!?! Am I now entitled to steal $75 worth of food???"

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Being at school. What's jumping out at me right now is halloween weekend -- having people over that Friday and going to six flags and doing the children's hospital thing.

16. What song will always remind you of 2005?
Sweet Caroline, the tecno remix (at least the first half of the year...hehe) also, the rent soundtrack, and 2005 was definitely the year of a cappella.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?
Hmm..this was last years: "MUCH happier. I can't imagine myself in a much better place in my life than I am right now."
tough to compete, but I would definitely say my social life is MUCH better. At school at least. :o)

ii. thinner or fatter?
I'm gonna go with last years: "??? There's a reason I don't use a scale. I am sorta curious though..."
I think I might start the gym thing...*GASP* ...I need a gym buddy though. One who will pull me out of my nice warm bed and drag me on a treadmill or rowing machine or something.

iii. richer or poorer?
I worked a LOT the first week and a half of vacation...but I have no idea in comparison to last year. I think I spent less money this semester. Less trips to wal-mart = good.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
More late night conversations -- the small group/one-on-one actual conversation kind.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
last year's: "procrastinating. But hey, it all worked in the end, no?"
ehh, that's about right.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
I worked, like every year :o) Then family friends who I hadn't seen in a very long time came over for Chinese food.

22. Did you fall in love in 2005?
Continuation?

23. How many one-night stands?
last year's: "3 nightstands. 2 nightstands 1 nightstand. ONE-NIGHT STAND!" sure, I'll go with that.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
SIX FEET UNDER!!! :oD

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
last year's: "I can't really think of anyone that I hate. But some people have grown more annoying." yeaa...that works. I also know more people now, and more people's annoying qualities.

26. What was the best book you read?
heh. book. yeah. (okay, THAT'S a new year's resolution. Actually read something! meh...I suck. I'm still 100 pages in to the FIFTH Harry Potter book. eep. OH! Wait! I read High Fidelity! okay. That's a little better....but not much. I will read more. Promise. Maybe.)

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Probably Dar Williams. Ooh and Greenday. Yay for Binghamton concerts!

28. What did you want and get?
A really pretty blue bag. :o)

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Sideways, Finding Neverland, Spotless Mind (which I think might have been from 2004 but I saw it in 05)

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
It was actually rather boring. I stayed home (which I probably shouldn't have done in retrospect, but I missed my anthro class! TOTALLY the best part of my bday) while my parents were at work and my brother was at school. Later that night Richard came and my mom made pene vodka and cake. Pretty uneventful, but 19 is kinda a pointless age anyway.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
last year's answer: "This is gonna sound really sappy and everything, but I don't know how it could have been better. My year was so amazing. Maybe just branching out at college...*shrugs* but I love my friends there...and Gatti is awesome (as hard a time as we give her) Life is good."
And now that "project branch out" is complete, I'm set ;o)
But if I'm gonna say something, I'll go with finishing Six Feet Under (all 5 seasons) this semester with the regulars.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2004?
haha...last year's: "Binghamton sweatshirts. (They're really comfortable! And remember, Thou Shalt Wear a Hoodie)" Still true. But I wear my white fleece a lot more now.

34. What kept you sane?
my friends. Really, those one-on-one conversations are the best ever.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Hmm...I don't know that this is particular to a year. Still an Ed Norton fan...hehe

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Last year: "banning same-sex marriage makes my blood boil." Still don't get it.

37. Who did you miss?
last year: "my friends...my family..." yea. and right now, my bingers.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Well, now that Gatti's old news...lol. I'm gonna go with Carly (even though I technically met her at the beginning of first semester freshman year), because 1-she's awesome, and 2- she introduced me to Hannah, who 1-is awesome, and 2-introduced me to all the Boys from Syracuse people who are awesome! And Ian who is the best RA ever. YAY for friends!

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005:
hm. I guess I recently discovered the value of alone time. I love all the people in my life SO much and I need to be around them, but there is definitely a time and place to be by yourself. That's the best I can come up with at the moment.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
wow. This is what's jumping to my head first. Lame, but "make new friends, but keep the old." I've met some absolutely amazing people this year, and rediscovered some older friendships too. I really see having many of these friendships for the rest of my life. (Sappy. Yeah, whatever.)

Okay, it is OFFICIALLY time to GO TO BED! Some concrete resolutions to follow. Tomorrow maybe.
