This year's marching crew has put in an incredible effort and had quite a rough year. There were emotional ups and downs throughout the year, though the biggest was for the sudden loss of one a drum major's dad mid-season. He was an incredibly friendly man, and involved in everything his son did... sort of an unofficial staff member. It was a devastating blow to everyone in the organization. Then to top off everything else from the year, they broke Avon's 7-year winning streak at state, taking 2nd place to Lawrence Central.
The loss sure made something click, though. Not only did they win semi-finals this weekend, but they took first place at BOA grand nationals tonight, and they did it with the highest score in BOA history. With a 97.75 and a spread of 1.6 points between first and second place, they rocked, & did it in style. The show was awesome.
They looked good, and they were crying and as excited as I've seen them in years.
Congratulations Avon! You deserved it.
