Hmmm. I suppose if you look at it from the entering motherhood aspect, it makes sense. But I've always just assumed that showers were to help out the mother since it can be expensive with a new baby. I'd also never heard that it was tacky to have showers for second weddings. I guess that shows what kind of family I was raised in. ;)

Personally, the idea of showers makes me uncomfortable. Heck, the idea of receiving presents and such for a wedding makes me a bit uncomfortable too. If I ever get married, I'm planning on including a note with the invites that says gifts are not expected, but there will be a donation area set up at the reception and all money will go to helping the local animal shelter.

I really don't want people buying me lots of stuff I'll never need/use. And don't even get me started on wedding/baby registries at stores. Those are the worst f-ing things ever. If I don't know a couple well enough to know what they need or want, then I sure as hell don't want to buy them an expensive gift.
