Because the News Rarely Makes You Smile

Dec 20, 2010 20:22

Watched the news today and got updated on something that's been going on for awhile.

The government decided that every student attending UPR (Universidad de Puerto Rico), has to pay $800 plus the cost of the classes. The students decided to protest, seeing as how there was no reason for them to pay such an amount. And really, there isn't a reason.

Then the government said that they couldn't protest, and the next thing you know, the police are everywhere. I don't mean a few, I mean whole troops. They're students, not criminals.

The tension's been high ever since, and today they crossed the line.

They're not sure how it started, whether it was some cops mocking, or some students taunting.

Police went wild and beat students to the ground. Arresting them shortly after.
Do you have any idea what that's like? Watching it play on the screen wondering, what the hell is going on?

Students, who only want to attend college, protest at the new expense and they're beaten for it.
It's their right to be able to protest if they wish to!

I can't properly translate all the thoughts that are swimming in my head. To correctly show how horrified and disgusted I am at this.

There are just so many things wrong with this!

cops suck, violence, life, upr, pr
