In Character Information
Character name : Fai D. Flourite
Fandom : Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles
Timeline : Post Season 1 / 2 / Movie, Pre-OVAs
Character's age : 25
Powers, skills, pets and equipment : Fai is more of a pacifist; preferring not to fight, he focuses on his agility and intelligence to keep him out of danger. Where one might swing a blade to save a friend, he would rather push them out of the way, or talk the enemy down, than engage in combat. However, travelling with an important group as he did, he found himself in trouble more often than not, and has proved himself to be quite adept at fighting nonetheless.
Fai’s preferred weapons are anything her can shoot or throw - on more than one occasion, he’s even been known to improvise with playing darts, as well as having shown proficiency with cross bows, long bows, and staves. His quick thinking and even faster reflexes keep him alive, and out of range of enemy weapons.
However, Fai’s most dangerous weapon is his magic, although he is loathe to use it unless it is absolutely, positively, critically necessary for the survival of his friends, for he’s rather self-sacrificial, and likely would not take measures to protect himself that he would take without hesitation for his allies.
This magic is incredibly powerful, having been referenced repeatedly as ‘more than enough’ to get him and his friends out of dire situations. At the start of the series, Fai swore to himself he would never use his magic again; however, as of late, he has been caught on several occasions using it, both to sense other magical presences, and in one case, to put up a barrier using music magic to allow for an escape. It seems the more he gets to know a person, and the more attached he becomes, and the closer they are as friends (or more), the more likely he is to ignore his vow and use magic to help them.
Referencing the OVAs of Tsubasa, in which this character has not yet experienced in Scorched, it is known that Fai is capable of deadly offensive magic in the form of explosive purple lightning. Fai also expresses his inability at curative magic in one of the Season episodes, although he is talented at cooking, and some consider his warm soups a blessing in themselves. It is unknown the full extent of his magic, however, as Fai is unwilling to use it except in emergencies for those he cares for, he would never use his powers for mundane abilities such as lighting fires, or warming water. He prefers to rely on his fighting skills and his survival skills, which, after much travelling, seems to encompass the basic survival training. These are all canon abilities, and I will not be adding any ‘extra’ powers; rather, I choose to have the ones he already possesses occasionally take a trip on the wild side when the mist rolls in!
Fai does not own any pets, although he has a strong bond with a figure of his home world, Chii. [spoilers] Using one of Sakura’s feathers, a powerful magical item, he created Chii as a barrier between him and King Ashura, a person he has sealed away and fears awakening. As he created her, and taught her basic language, he has a tendency of treating her like a small child, or perhaps alike a pet, and is known to pet her head in reassurance.
He also is known for making pet names, particularly for Kurogane, and during one world, gave the team different animal names, which they continued to use as an alias. Fai was Big Kitty, Sakura was Little Kitty, Kurogane was Big Puppy, and Syaoran was Little Puppy.
They also travelled with Mokona, an interdimensional-travelling, magical rabbit-like creature, who took care of the equipment that Fai and his comrades used. As Mokona is not here with Fai in the Sphere, Fai only arrives with his basic equipment. This includes his large white hooded jacket, and blue garments he wears. He carries no weapon, as it was traded off for a wish to the Dimensional Witch, Yuuko. It seems he was left in the Sphere with nothing but the clothing on his back to work with.
Canon history: Whitened to hide spoilers!
Fai has not had an easy life. His original name was Yui, and was born with a twin named Fai. However, twins born to the second prince of their country was considered an ill omen, and thoughts soon spread that the country was cursed. The death of his father only led to heightened superstition, and then their mother died of grief. The King, their uncle, fearing the twin’s magical powers that might develop in a mage country where they were royalty, split them up, placing them in a tower; Yui at the bottom and Fai at the top.
However, the King was going mad, and people began dying throughout the country over the years. Before long, Yui learned it was their uncle who was committing the crimes, and attempted to climb the tower to get to his brother. The King had other thoughts, and intervened, telling the two brothers that they were at fault for all the deaths, and that he had killed everyone in the country because of them, before committing suicide himself.
Shortly after, Fei Wang Reed, the series villain, finds the twins trapped in the tower, and offers to free one of them. Fai chooses to save Yui, and as a result, is thrown from the tower to his death. However, Reed also alters Yui’s memory so that he thinks he chose himself over his brother. As well, Reed places two curses on Yui - one is that he is to kill any magicians stronger than him, and the other, removed from his memory, is that once Yui does so, his own magic will destroy the world. Left by Reed, and crushed by grief, Yui takes his twin’s name, Fai, and is soon found by King Ashura of Celes, a nearby country. Ashura takes Fai in, and learning of his strong powers, teaches him magic and gives him the last name of ‘Flourite’, a stone prevalent in Celes. He also gives Fai two of Sakura’s feathers - one of which he uses to preserve his brother’s body for hopes that one day, he can revive him, and the other he uses to create Chii.
While learning to become a great mage and a great fighter, Fai learns that Ashura plans to use him as an assassin, for killing mages stronger than Ashura will cause him to rise to power. However, Fai also learns that Ashura growing in power will trigger the first curse placed on him by Fei Wang Reed. To avoid killing a man he considers a father figure, he battles Ashura and places him in a deep sleep, using Chii as an alarm for if Ashura were to ever awaken. He then travels to the Dimensional Witch Yuuko, asking that he go ‘anywhere but home’, for he knows if he meets Ashura again, he will be forced to kill him.
Since then, he has been travelling with Sakura, Syaoran, Kurogane and Mokona to different worlds, trying to hunt down Sakura’s memory feathers. At least, until mid-dimensional travel, when something went wrong, and he found himself waking up in a bed in Anatole.
Personality: On the outside, and to most people, Fai is very happy and very cheerful all of the time. He is friendly to everyone, and more than once has used his charm to get what he needs, both information and material wise. He loves to make up names and new ideas, and has a tendency for teasing Kurogane with childish pet-names like ‘Kuro-puu’, to which Kurogane usually yells at him for, and chases him with threats.
Fai is also quite adept at reading people’s feelings, and helping people with advice. Despite his cheery nature, he really is very intelligent, and can usually come up with resolutions to problems that haven’t occurred to anyone else. As well, he has a tendency to know things before other people do, particularly in magical things - for example, [spoiler] he knew in the OVA’s that the Sakura they were travelling with was a clone, a Tsubasa made of magic, and not the real person. However, he usually keeps this to himself, and just likes to smile knowingly when the fact is finally discovered by others.
Note: The trait of ‘instinct’ will obviously not be used in the roleplay to avoid an omniscient feeling, but instead will be altered in a way that when things are finally revealed, he will smile knowingly anyways, and pretend he always knew, even though he’s just as surprised as everyone else. Fai dislikes being proved wrong, and tries not to be taken by surprise very often, so would likely keep up the facade of knowing until pushed to the point of admitting defeat, when he would then try and laugh it off.
Despite his happy ruse, he is deeply troubled by his past, and, still weighted by the grief of his brother, has little care for his own life. Now and then, he lapses into silent moments, and the only people to have ever noticed were Kurogane, and the small creature Mokona, who claims he can ‘feel the heavy sadness in Fai’s heart’.
Kuro, in particular, seems to see through Fai’s mask like glass, repeatedly bringing up his thoughts on the matter when the two of them are alone. By doing this, Fai has come to trust Kurogane, and has even started to open up, and take more stock in his own life. Because of this bond the two of them share, Fai seems to be a little brighter, however, now that he is split from his friends, it is quite possible he will easily lapse back into that overly-cheerful facade.
Why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting? Fai is not new at needing to do what needs to be done to survive. Both from his dark past, and his travels with Syaoran and the group, he has learned many useful survival techniques he is more than willing to share with others. He is a quick shot, making him useful for hunting, while cheerful and talkative; a well of information for anyone, as well as a good conscience for those who need advice. While he may not open up to anyone, especially at first, he can provide camaraderie, an extra hand for those who need it, and protection for those weaker than him whom he deems needing it.
As well, having travelled many worlds, he is quite adept at adapting to the situation and sliding into the rhythm of the social scene quite quickly. His past jobs have included bar waiter, business owner, bouncer, pilot, and bodyguard, making him a jack of all trades of sorts, and certainly a help to anyone who needs it in a crumbling dystopian society.

Video 1.
[Slowly, the whirr of a recorder is heard, light and flickering like the visual on the screen. The camera seems to be pointed at a sheet of some sort, a dull beige, and the tip of a finger can be seen looming in a corner of the frame. Noises are heard now, people bustling about in the room, picking up on the small microphone used by the Forge. A groan overcomes the other noises, and a voice stands out.]
Uuuugh... my head.
.... Kuro-puu? Mokona?
[Suddenly there is a huge shift in visuals as the person holding the Forge jolts up from a prone position. From where the communications device now lays discarded in the man’s lap, a face can be seen from above. Blond hair frames a delicate, smooth jaw, and as the man looks around, he notices the device with careful blue eyes. He seems cautious for a moment, before a small smile spreads on peach lips.]
Ah. I see. Mokona must have divided us again. I’m sure Kuro-pii is thrilled.
[The smile widens as if at an inside joke as the man picks up the Forge, raising it.]
Well. I seem to be in bed, so the locals here must be friendly to some extent. I don’t see the others, but that’s happened before.
[He turns the device around a few times, examining it before returning to the screen.]
And this device looks somewhat like those communicators Tomoyo had in Piffle World. Hmm. I wonder what this but-
[The screen goes black as the communication ends]
Third Person Sample:
“Kuro-puu! Mokona! Syaoran-kun? Sakura-chan!”
The voice carried through the empty, stagnant air, seeming to travel for miles. Alone, a man walks through the rubble, a ruin of some sort. He can feel the magic buzzing in the wind, making a shiver run down his back and his blonde hair flutter about his face. He’d left his cloak back at the place he’d woken up, and slipped out without alerting anyone, preferring to gather information himself before further imposing on the kind people who’d helped him. He wasn’t too far from town - behind him, he could still see silhouettes of the buildings in the distance.
He assumed he’d been knocked unconscious after the travel - it was unusual for him to do so, but it had happened to Sakura before, and even to Syaoran, although he was certain that those times were for reasons other than why he had. Still, it had happened, and he had awoken in a bed with a small communications device of some sort, unsure of where his comrades were. And finding them was his first order of business. After all, without Mokona, he doubted he even shared the same language as the locals.
His blue eyes scanned the rubble before him - Fai was in some sort of ruined society this time, it seemed. It was not the first time he’d been in such a situation; in fact, his own home country had been decimated by its own king.
He flinched at the memory.
“KUROOOO-PUU!” He yelled, trying to keep his voice light, although the strain was audible. He felt uneasy, uncomfortable, like he was somewhere he shouldn’t be. And it was strange, but he felt like the mist was getting thicker.
Yes, yes the Mist was certainly getting thicker. A ruin he’d been examining from a yard away before was now a vague shape. Slowly, he began to turn, to head back to the town he’d come from, whose silhouettes were just barely visible through the fog. Yet something blocked his way. A small child, blonde; almost a younger version of himself.
His blue eyes widened, alarmed at the sight. His mouth opened slowly, unbelieving, before his eyes narrowed, lips in a firm line. The magic was nearly unbearable now, and he had no doubt that the child in front of him, the child smiling at him, the child that looked just like him, was no more than a creation of that magic. Someone was toying with him, and he didn’t like it.
“You’re not real,” he said quietly, and the hallucination’s smile grew, although it said nothing. Fai stepped forward, toward the small boy, and still the child made no movement towards him, no attempt to communicate.
Taking a breath, Fai continued on back towards the town, and as he reached the child, a hand stretched out, as if hoping to feel something solid, something real. But like the man had assumed, it was nothing but an image, and the child slid away, back into the mist.
The blond bit his lip, his walk picking up pace as he hurried back away from the ruins. It seemed his rescue mission for his friends needed to start in town after all, getting as much information as possible from the locals about just what he had been dealing with outside the edges of the city. Even if he couldn’t understand them, something was wrong here that he’d never encountered before, and he was alarmed.
He just hoped his friends weren’t out there as well.
Anything else? This is my first time RPing Fai, and the first time in a year or so since seriously RPing, so I’m really excited, but reeeally really nervous! :’]
