UMKC

SOOOO....

I think it's off to UMKC for me! :)

I got a UMKC med school T-Shirt and a really cool pen lol, but that's not all that I like about the school. Basically the dorms are awesome and the curriculum is awesome. Every medical student gets a refrigerator and a microwave. The rooms have heat/AC, carpeting and private bathrooms. THEY ARE BRAND NEW!!!! It's just very very very very nice. Plus, 95% of the class matched with their top 3 residency choices which is well above the national average. 10% of the class become chief residents.

AND THERE IS NO MCAT!!!!!!!!!

I think that in 6 years I will be a great doctor coming out of the program. I just hope it's not too impossible. I mean.. 22 credit hours is no joke. I'm planning on taking the CLEP test to get out of some core classes (a free alternative to the AP tests) and I'll take some classes at UMSL in the summer too. The metro link goes right through campus, so it won't be a long drive afterall!

I talked to this hillarious doctor. Right now he's working at Barnes and has his MBA and countless other degrees. He had great advice: never let any intimidate you no matter what. He and his room mate where not even in the top 20% of their high school class, but they wanted to be doctors more than anything. Now his friend is a neurosurgeon and he is the head of many medical departments. I won't feel so bad now at graduation when I'm not called as one of the top 15 people. Life won't stop then... it will be beginning. I guess it's just hard to see all the insanely smart people I know now, and at the same time realize that my reward in life is just coming a little later.

Oh I hope to God it will!

For right now... I need to give myself some credit. I hear about people getting into these wonderful name brand institutions and I totally forget that I got into TWO medical schools. Hello... wake up girl.. your dreams just came true!!!!!!!

Yes Melody, sometimes you are pretty darn good. :)

I don't think it will become real untill August when I actually have my own lab coat and stethoscope and some doctor is like... "I concur" and all that wonderful stuff lol.

I just hope I won't be poor forever. I mean the average income of an OB/GYN is about $250,000 now days with malpractice insurance at about $60,000 in places ($200,000 in bad places). I expect to have about over $120,000 of debt after I graduate. Residents usually get about $30,000 (for the 4 years untill they become attending physicians). I don't like all this number stuff. :( Maybe it will all work out. The bank I'm supposed to be getting my loans from seems to really really love medical students. There is a whole section of the college brochure just for them. :) You even get added bonuses if you borrow undergrad and graduate school from the same place so... looks like they'll love me! I hope. :)

I hope God isn't still mad at me for yelling at him.. because I'm going to go pray about this lol.

Holy crap! Invasive cardiology people make an average of $410,000!!! Is it too late to change what I want to do??? lol Just kidding... I'm not in it for the money... but I DO want my kids to have even more opportunities than I did. I hope that doesn't sound selfish?

And I want a super sexy car... ;)

I'm going to go do some other stuff now... I day dream way too much! :)
