Wow. These past three weeks have flown by! So here’s my attempt to recapture November’s magic in bulleted form. For nothing says “sophisticated writing style” better then bullets.
*Note: I dedicate this entry to Kerry R, my favorite little sketch. Hope this feeds your need to know ;-)
- 10: Report card day! Did pretty well, lowest grade in AP English, of course, since that class eats me for lunch. (Note how these sentences are grammatically incorrect; on purpose.) Dentist after school: I learned more then I EVER wanted to know about flossing. I think the dental hygienists set their expectations for the human race far too high… I have yet to meet a truly proficient flosser. Unless of course one of my friends is secretly leading a double life, unbeknownst to me.
That night watched South Pacific at Sarah’s. My uber audition group was all there: Rachel, Laird and Nathan. Had some good laughs - quite a show.
- 11: Woke up at 4:30 to make a 6:20 train for NY with Eliz. The train is a pretty great way to travel, as long as you don’t forget your iPod. Stayed at Sarah Lawrence with Owen, got to meet a bunch of his friends all of whom were very interesting, in quite a good way. I learned a bit more about the college lifestyle - added too what I experienced last year while visiting Sarah G and what I’ve heard from older Medfieldian kiddos. - No one sleeps much, that’s for sure.
Went to a show at SLC called “Project Rhythm.” It was really neat. Many very talented people. ‘Course, a lot of the poetry relentlessly beat on the same idea: God damn the white man who screwed over the minorities. However, as long as you don’t take the message personally (since, after all, it’s really not my fault that I am a middle class white girl), and look at their art objectively, most of it was quite moving. A lot of the singers were wonderful, including one of Owens friends… Brynne? I think… really gorgeous voice. Also, the Sarah Lawrence graduate - the piece she performed was breathtaking with a bass accompaniment.
-12: Got locked out of Owen’s room when no one was home. Since it all ended well, I can call it an adventure, although I have to admit it was a serious “own.” For the first 10 minutes I was kicking the walls thinking “great, I’m screwed” - all my stuff, including coat/money/cell phone was inside - so I started knocking on random doors until I met this guy, Ian, who helped me out. Fuck shyness, I was desperate, haha.
Took NY’s form of the Commuter Rail into NYC to spend some time with Eliz and Kate (at NYU). We did some shopping, of course :-) I briefly met some of Kate’s friends and saw her dorm room, which was way larger then I expected, with it being in the middle of New York City and all.) And got to have some gossip sessions about Medfield kids past and present. Sigh, I love this town.
Took my first NYC taxi cab back to Grand Central Station to meet up with Owen and his friend, Katie. We went to see "Fiddler on the Roof" which was AMAZING. I couldn’t get over the set… And Harvey Fierstien (sp?) was incredible; I think I’m in love. Seriously. ;-)
- 13: The train ride home was a whole lot faster then the train ride there.
- 14: AUDITION! Went pretty well, although during the song my mouth felt like it was full of cotton… Yuck!
- 16: CALL BACKS! These went better then the audition… afterwards the parts were pretty obvious, so I mentally cast the show…
- 18: CAST LIST! I GOT NELLY!!! YAY! A LEAD!!!!!
I was pretty much right with most of my predictions:
Emile: Zach N.
Nelly: Me
Bloody Mary: Meredith G
Cable: Laird
Mary’s daughter (I forget her specific name): Alyssa W
Billis: Brian L
And I’m wicked excited that Sarah, Rachel, Katie, Renee, the Jacques, Meg, etc. are nurses; We’re gonna have so much fun!!!! :-)
Harry Potter that night with Christine, Laird, Lauren, Tara, Mike, Jess, Gab, Eliz and Rachel. So good. Then chocolate milk shakes after at Chiles. Yum. Mike didn’t have one though, since he’s such a fat kid ;-)
- 19: Senior District tryouts. Went really awful, I seriously need to learn to count measures. However, miraculously, I made it into districts. Go figure! No All State rec. though, but that’s perfectly fine with me, since I didn’t even think I would make districts in the first place. Of course Laird got districts and an AS rec. Anyone surprised? No, I didn’t think so. Little Melchoir got one, too, so we’ll get quite a crew come January. Woohoo. I was pretty surprised that Meg didn’t make it, though. She’s better at the technical stuff then I am.
That night was the MTA Coffee House at the Phaff center. Fun times. And we’re in the Medfield Press! Score, that’s fame, right there. I’m so not even kidding. Although Kerry looks like she is going to eat me in the picture, lol. A bunch of the best Charles River kids were there - including Lilly, Laurel and Trudy, who was a guest-vocalist on one of Jane Ave’s songs (Matt Aucoin’s band.) And I got to see Steve Durning!
- 22: VACATION! Went to see “Pride and Prejudice” with my mother. IT WAS TERRIBLE. Clearly, no one can touch the A&E version, simply because it is FABULOUS. I no longer trust the Boston Globe, which gave this new P and P four stars, but stepped all over RENT, which I saw a few days later and LOVED. It was nice to be able to fill in the gaps of a plot which I have been slowly attempting to piece together since Andy Short burned me a copy of the soundtrack back in freshman year.
- 23: Thanksgiving was pretty good. Pancakes in the morning with my girls at Christine’s house was wonderful, as always, and I’m so glad that we are going to continue that even when we all split up into different schools next year. Football game was ok- Medfield kicked DS’s butt and I got too see a bunch of last years kiddos: Kate, Cari, Christine S, Liz, Dave J, Jeff Hutch, even Dave and RJ. Also: Callum, Bowling and Brett. Seeing Brett and Bowling was actually kinda fun, even though Brett wouldn’t do the Brett wave, which was pretty disappointing. Bowling had one of his West Point roommates with him. He was from California and seemed like a nice guy, kinda cute, too. I guess I must have some strange weakness for Republicans. Well, we all have our faults.
Thanksgiving dinner was good at my aunt Sally’s. My cousins talked more than usual and Mr. Starr came - apparently I’m supposed to call him Ray now. I’m still not really over not having my family together at holiday time. Jeff went to Katherine’s this year and my Dad went with him. I always feel a slight rip inside of me at this time of year… I think I’ll be happier once we get to 2006…
Not to end on a sour note, but the next day I took my car to the shop since it had been making weird noises and giving off strange smells for a while. Six hundred dollars later, I have a new flex pipe and very ugly opinion of automobiles.
I’m pretty sure this is my record for longest entry ever. Now I really have no choice but to get back to reading Heart of Darkness. It’s not really as bad as everyone led me to believe; although I’m only on pg. 40 out of 72 and I have to have it read by tomorrow. Sigh, oh procrastination, how you plague me.
