This week in ridiculousness and costuming, which is redundant, really.

So, an incredibly cheap grey satin corset is on its way to me, as are a pair of grey thigh high argyle socks and a grey pleated mini-skirt (think school girl style). All I need now is the hat, wig/beard and the licensed costume which I intend to hack to pieces to make an open front over robe-ish thing and sexy Gandalf will be assembled.

I also ordered a black PVC catsuit. Don't ask. In the process, I've learned that it's difficult to communicate the details of a custom clothing item to someone who's native language is obviously Chinese. Chances are good they're just pushing your email through a translator. Or possibly their English is just really weak. Either way, there are bound to be misunderstandings and I'll be really surprised if this thing turns out anything like I want it to. But honestly, the price is worth taking that chance as long as it's not a total loss.

At any rate, there are a number of very bizarre items headed my way and it makes me happy that my life is so strange. I'm also getting better at walking in five inch heels.

In other costuming news, I managed to finish my neighbor's costume commission before we left for Florida. I dropped it off before we hit the road that morning. I only charged her $20 which covered materials and a little extra. I know, sweatshop wages are better! But it seemed only fair for a number of reasons that I won't bother listing. I put probably 3-5 hours into it, counting research and shopping. The greatest amount of time was probably cutting the fringe in the edges. I've got some pics of the costume on a hanger. I'll see if I can't either get her to send me some of Sabrina in the costume or get her to slip it on one day so I can snap some. It came out really well for the minor effort it required. I was just happy I could deliver it on time. Maybe I just need to trick myself into thinking my deadlines are all a week earlier than they really are. Or a month. Whichever.

I'm tackling my D*C costume wishlist in order of things I've told people I will do as a group. So once sexy Gandalf is where I want him (oh yes, it's that kind of party), I'll start in on historical Aurora in blue. Once that's done, I believe I'm down to just things I want to do for me, which leaves finishing Celeborn (although he has promised a dance off with Boromir, so that's kind of a commitment), Merida from Brave (if I have the funds & time) & the thing of which we do not speak.

Regarding things of which we do speak, I still have a Disney Princess Half post to make, but since this pertains to something that happened just before that, I wanted to get it out of the way.

Right. That excuse will do just fine.
