Friday
Jonah came home with the class mascot, Paws (a stuffed tiger), on Thursday. It is our duty to do some things worth taking pictures of with him and add a couple of pages to the scrapbook that accompanied him, then bring him back to class on Tuesday. So, I told him we'd go get some lunch and then take a hike. We stuffed Paws in Jonah's backpack and set off down a very short trail at Edwin Warner Park right down the street from home.
Jonah decided to run the paved section that brings us back to the car, which I was totally fine with even though I was wearing heavy hiking boots. Jonah, however, over did it and I don't know if it's his congestion or if he might actually be developing asthma. I hope it is the former and not the latter. Poor kid was coughing and wheezing all the way home and even well after.
After that, it was time to start thinking about dinner. Chris was on a run when we got back and when he returned, Jonah and I went to grab gyros and falafel for dinner. YUM!
Here's a pic of Jonah and Mogwai with Paws at bedtime:
Poor Mogwai.
And here's a pic of Jonah having tea and Paws having a beer:
That one will not make it into the scrapbook for school, no matter how much Chris protests that we should "start a revolution."
Saturday
We got up and got out in the lovely weather to finish planting the pansies in the front yard. We had started the weekend before and got half of it done, but I just didn't find the time during the week to finish it. So I worked on that while Chris went to get a truckload of mulch. That ate up most of the day.
Then we got cleaned up and went to a birthday party for a kid in Jonah's class and after that, carted him off to a drop in childcare place in Franklin so we could get dinner at
Papa Boudreaux's and go see Sam Bush at the recently renovated
Franklin Theatre.
The place is really quite lovely, with an art deco flair that hails to the Golden Age of Hollywood, which is fitting since the place was built in 1937. The acoustics there are really fantastic too! Every bit as good as the Ryman I think, though it might be heresy to say so. The show was awesome, but I felt very confined to my seat. Sam Bush is not the type of music to which you sit still. We absolutely had to leave at 11pm because I felt really guilty keeping Jonah up so late when he was already so tired (even though I was sure he was having fun). All we wound up missing was the encore, so that didn't wind up being so bad. On our way back to the car, I took a pic of this which we had seen on our way to the show:
This was the crawfish and shrimp etouffee I had for dinner:
Though I'm used to a much darker sauce for an etouffee and this was just a straight up cream sauce (I don't think I'd call it etouffee, for that matter) it was still crazy delicious!
And here's a shot from the show:
Sunday
I was promised since we busted ass on Saturday that I could have a day to just relax and maybe catch up the laundry. But no such luck. We had wanted to make sure we took Jonah to
Whistlestop Weekend at Adventure Science Center because he loves trains and we always miss it for one reason or another. Chris also decided he wanted to go out for breakfast and since he had gotten a
Noshville gift certificate from work, we went there and had a mostly free breakfast. Mmmm, corned beef hash and eggs with potato cakes. Their coffee is stupid expensive though. :/
We had some time to kill before Adventure Science opened, so we went to Costco and wandered around (because we were in Cool Springs and there's not shit else to do but shop down there). I got Jonah three new Dr. Seuss books because now that things have settled down again, I want to pick back up on our reading lessons and those are beginner reader books. Plus, you really can't beat three books for $11.
When we had wasted enough time there, we headed to the Whistlestop thingy. Since we let our Adventure Science membership lapse, we wound up renewing. But they've got a new option that's about $20 cheaper than the full family membership that works for us since we're just a family of three. It has a named adult, an unnamed guest and then we added an unnamed chaperone. That way I can go, Chris can go and even if my mother-in-law or a babysitter or anyone else for that matter wanted to take him, they'd just have to take my card with them. Pretty awesome! The exhibits were really neat. Some of them incredibly detailed. I saw one guy was controlling his trains with an iPod Touch. We didn't spend a ton of time there. Just long enough to see all the trains and check out a bit of the new stuff there since the last time we had been.
When we got home, I got ready and went out for a run for the first time in like three months. I did a fartlek run and felt really good when I finished! So happy I got out and did that. Plus, if I'm doing the Disney Princess half in February, I really need to get to training! That's another one of those things that fell by the wayside when I got too busy. But I'm ready to get back to exercising. Beyond ready, really. After I got back, Chris went for his run. He had finished his half marathon training, but never got around to registering for the race that was on Saturday. So he just went out and ran 13.1 miles on his own. I'm really proud of him! He'll be doing the Disney Princess Half with me, too, even though he has some trepidation about running a women's race. ;)
So that's what we did this weekend. And now I feel like I need a weekend from my weekend. Ugh!
