I've gotta keep my eye on this one.

I swear I had already posted this! Anyway, in the interest of clearing out the backlog...

I was having a rough day with Jonah yesterday two Friday's ago. He was increasingly defiant and suddenly, after several weeks of cooperating with potty training, had decided that he was going to revert to being a baby and consciously avoid using the potty ( Read more... )

I actually picked up these things at the grocery store the other day for Jonah and his potty training... I'll stick them in the mail today! Maybe they'll help, maybe not... Just thought of you both when I saw em :)

Best not get into logic wars with a preschooler - You can't win because the rules change (on their side) all the time!

I found the best way to get Sarah (our oldest) out of diapers was comparing her to her baby sister, Emily. "Well, you know how babies are - they poop in their diapers because they're too little to use the potty!" Of course this requires a little sibling in the house to work most effectively... ;-)

As to Emily, she took a looooooong time, didn't see the need to use the potty until she was four, for crying out loud. Looking back, what I should have done was let her sit in her dirty diapers until I "had time" to change them...and take longer and longer to find time to do so. There's no loss to a kid if they're always cleaned up right away. A little discomfort goes a long way at that age... Anyway, what finally worked for her was your basic bribe: She wanted a Nativity set in the worst way (Sarah had a plastic one she liked to play with) but I told her that Nativity sets were for Big Kids, so if she wanted one... *

You have my deepest sympathy. These are fought years.

Lizzie is doing the same thing with her potty training. She'll do really well for a while then revert back. I don't know what I'm going to do with her.
