The Simpsons are going to Antartica. . . next year. This year Brazil.

So, now that the first round of plane tickets are booked, I guess it's a sure thing and I feel ok in talking about it. In the first week of May, we get to go to San Francisco to visit branflake, then flying out from there we get to go spend a week in Hawaii with Chris' family. Chris is going to a Java conference in San Francisco and will be flying out there on Monday, but Jonah and I will go out on Wednesday and be there through Friday. Saturday, we'll all fly out to join Chris' parents on Kauai. Thursday, we'll fly back to San Francisco and spend Thursday night and Friday there, then we catch an afternoon flight back to Nashville on Saturday.

I'm really excited, though kind of apprehensive about flying with Jonah, especially having to be at the airport at 6am or so (he doesn't normally wake up until after 8am). It's hard to tell what he's going to do and it would certainly be nerve wracking if he's antsy and fussy because he has to sit in my lap the whole time (can you believe they charge you $100 to let your kid sit in your lap?). I'll definitely have to make sure to take things that will keep him occupied. Hopefully he'll sleep some. We'll at least have a 1-1.5 hour layover in St. Louis on the way out there to sort of unwind, grab some food, and let him run out some energy before boarding again. The rest of the flights I'll have Chris there to help and it might be better if we can switch back and forth.

Yay, I get to go to two states I've never been to (two steps closer to my goal of visiting all 50, putting me at 35, man we should have gone to Maine when we were just 10 miles away from it, Rhode Island got missed on that trip too). More importantly I get to see Brandy's new home! It's all very exciting.

We'll be in Hawaii for both Mother's Day and our 2nd wedding anniversary. Kind of nice since we never got a chance to take a honeymoon. I can't wait to hike up a volcano. ;) Snorkeling or scuba diving would be fun, too (never done either). From what I understand Kauai is one of the more naturalized islands. Would like to pick up a copy of this book as soon as possible. 119 hikes! I like the sound of this one from the Kauai tourism site:
The Kukui Trail
This 5-mile (round trip) trail drops 2,000 feet into spectacular Waimea Canyon, and offers the shortest route to the canyon floor. There's a large swimming hole at the bottom. The trail begins off the Iliau Loop Trail.
Man, just browsing through that site, they've filmed a ton of movies on that island (Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Ark, the opening to the Fantasy Island series, etc.).

I'm counting on Brandy to be our reference for San Francisco. Although the only hiking I expect to do there is on pavement along city streets.
