Even Clinton says the government failed

I love him. For all those politicians out there talking your way around saying "failure", take advice from him. Just get it out there. Let it be known. For god sakes, grow some BALLS and speak out. Don't just write it on your forehead.

I'm not sure how much of it was lack of planning on his part and how much was just doing what he could with what he had. Bush declared the region a disaster area just before landfall, y'know. They still didn't get any help with evac. On top of that, to add insult to injury, the airlines refused to take anybody out, Greyhound refused to take anybody out, Amtrak refused to take anybody out. WTF?

People point to the submerged school buses but who the hell was supposed to drive those? You need a CDL. Driving a bus is way different from driving a car. Yeah, there are stories of at least one teenager who managed it anyway but their luck, they'd have gotten some people trying it who weren't paying attention in their panic and who would have wrecked the buses. And then they would have had to deal with the traffic.

They did have at least two recent training exercises to prepare for something like Katrina; the most recent was last year. And then the funding was cut and they couldn't train anymore. It wasn't just the levees that suffered funding cuts but the emergency training. Yet another reason Shrub needs to be thrown out on his ass. And then into prison.

Oh, I didn't know about the airlines and buses refusing to take people out. WTF? Although, I have to admit that I sort of figured there had to have been a totally lack of resources, or why else would they have just sent them to a holding place they knew was unfit to hold that many people for very long.

And you are completely right. Unless trained for that sort of thing, people just can't up and hop in a bus and start driving. A bus is a lot bigger than a regular ordinary car, SUV even. I can't imagine why people would just expect someone, anyone (teenagers much less), to be able to drive those busses, in traffic, to safety. Without causing an accident.

I think the part the federal government fails to realize is that not everybody is willing to risk their lives trying to save everybody else. Not every business is willing to lend a helping hand when the danger is so great. Not everybody is cut out for the Army or the Navy or any other military position. Not everybody is a "hero" in the grand hero sense.

When there are warnings of danger, it's quite common for people to be pretty selfish in wanting to save their own lives and the lives of the ones they love, the ones they KNOW. People are kind, giving and helpful, but they are also selfish to a fault. They go insane when they hear "Danger". They go insane and lose whatever common sense they had to begin with. And without training and the KNOWLEDGE to know what to do, not everybody can just "wing it" and survive. That just pisses me off that he would cut so much funding to our own HOMEland SECURITY and leave us that much more vulnerable to any sort of disaster.

I agree, he needs to be thrown out and imprisoned!
