Popomundo - an explanation for those who have asked, heh

Okaysies, so I figure since I keep getting asked wtf I'm talking about, maybe I should explain a bit further :p

Popomundo is a RPG type game. Text based, Popomundo.com.

Basically, the aim of the game is to become a successful musician. You start out with no skills and really bad attributes, and have to gradually build them up over time. Things cost money, which you need to 'earn'.

You can pick a number of different genres for your act, and you can be a solo act, or part of a group. Audrey is the sole member of Audacity, which is a Pop act. Her stage name is Audacious. Audacity is (at the moment) the #156 pop act in the world. Considering there are over 16,000 pop acts alone ... she's doing darn good ;) There are approximately 200,000 accounts registered for the game in total. Genres range from Rock to Pop to Heavy Metal to Flamenco to Classical to World Music ... etc :)

Attributes are: Charm, looks, voice, IQ and musicality. You build these up with experience points ... for the first 25 days you get (approx) 2 updates a day of 2 newbie experience points. After that, you have to earn points each week, you can get a maximum of 3 each week.

There are huge amounts of skills ... everything from skill in the genre you are part of to lead vocals to pharmacology :p Once you have learnt a skill, you need to improve your skill to actually become any good at it. This is measured in stars. 5 stars is the most you can get through improving skill, but if you teach skills to other people, you can gradually work your way up to more stars. I think 10* is the most you can get in a skill, but I've not got more than 5 in anything.

Attributes and skills combine to influence just about anything you do. Writing songs (musicality as well as composing and lyrics skills), jamming them (if you don't have 5* in your genre skill, you can't jam your songs to 100%, which obviously means your shows won't be any good), performing them, whatever other actions you perform on stage ... then your abilities in interacting with other people, skills such as sex, comedy, illusionism affect that, dependent on what interactions you choose.

Then, every 2 weeks, as long as her mood and health is good, a female character ovulates. If she has sex during that time without a condom, she has a chance to become pregnant. If either partner has a condom, it WILL be used, and she will NOT become pregnant. You've got to have a pretty good relationship to someone to snuggle with them, ordinarily, and there are settings you can use to make it less likely that someone will snuggle with you.

STDs can be caught from groupies if you choose to get with them. Groupies are NPCs, and condoms aren't effective if you choose to snuggle with them, though they can't make you pregnant. Sleeping with groupies boosts your star quality, which boosts your fame :)

Umm ... characters get jobs, for which they earn a salary each week. Audrey is a CEO, and earns $3600 a week. Though the city the job is in is LA, and she's not been there for almost 2 years, game time. Hehe. She still gets all her $ every week though. Some jobs require certain skills or attributes, for example, a lawyer must have a certain number of stars in basic law (I think ... I've never looked ;)). She also earns money from each gig she plays. Right now, she earns somewhere around $10,000 - $25,000 a show, and ordinarily she plays every second to third day.

A year in Popo lasts 56 days, pregnancy lasts 6 weeks. Audrey has a son called Adi ... his father is dead, but he was recently adopted by Audrey's boyfriend Harley. Who she is now pregnant to :D Audrey also adopted one of Harley's kids, Hayden, who is 5 ... and Harley made her primary parent of Hayden today, actually :D Each week, bills must be paid for each child you have ... they add up to $75 per parent if both are alive/identified, or $150 for a single parent.

There is currently no marriage in the game. But Harley recently started a new Punk act, and he's following her around the world since she already had it all booked when she met him. If she cancelled shows, she'd lose fame in the cities that she did it in.

At the moment, Audrey is on her second world tour. Performing in Nashville in about 9 hours now. Then, after LA, she'll make her way through South America, down through Australia, up to Turkey and then through Europe, before ending the tour in Montreal. It started in Toronto 2 days ago.

You get (on average) 2 character updates a day. During this time, you do a "spare time mission" and a "career mission". Career missions are things like composing music, improving skill and talking to the media. Spare time missions are things like "Go shopping" which boosts your mood, "Exercise at the gym" which boosts health, etc :)

Anyway, that's hopefully explained it better than I have before ... please feel free to ask any more questions :p It's not the world's easiest game, but it's fun.
