Hello in there, it's me

And yes it’s been a while since I’ve gotten around to doing a real update.

Since the proposal… the engagement has been coming along fabulously. I like getting a whole lot of congratulations every time I see a new group of people (the last one being the family over the holidays) to which then they all ask about wedding plans.

Ok, I’ve only been engaged 2 months and 4 days… but most of the plans were set a long time ago, like how we’re getting married in Smoo’s church in OR and my family is doing the food so we’ll be able to save a lot of money.

Oh wait, let me back up to cover the rest of November and December.

Working in the formulation group makes me so much happier (and I think healthier) then when I was working nights. My new co-workers are awesome and are people I could hang out with sometime.

Thanksgiving break came; I took off that Monday after (YAY for super long weekends). Smoo and I spent the time by ourselves in Myrtle Beach basking in the sun, playing on the beach, eating A LOT of food. We ended up flying into Columbia airport (really nice place, has to be new) and driving out to MB (I call it My beach for short) which is a nice drive in the off season, must be horrendous during season.

Our hotel was right on the beach and our view angled, so we could see up the beach instead of just a little bit of beach and a lot of water. Whoa, and the tides are crazy down there! I didn’t measure, but it had to be around 50-60 ft difference!

We had our thanksgiving dinner at Landry’s (yes it’s a seafood restaurant) and our server was like 12? and totally cute and included himself in stuff (i.e. I will be taking care of us tonight, what are we having for dessert, etc) There are a couple really cool shopping places, not on the beach but a short drive over to the marina/dock where they did it up nice. My favorite is the Fudgery where the guy sang to us as we watched him make the fudge, and then we bought 4 lbs of fudge, yum. AND there’s a place to hold, sit and take a picture with a baby tiger!!!!!!!! It was closed for off season, but that just means I need to go back sometime.

And I think every other restaurant there is a seafood buffet, so naturally we tried one and ended up at Original Benjamin’s (they’re in Baltimore, etc.) and sat there for a while eating crab legs. Another night we went to the Dolly Parton Dixie Stampede Christmas Show. Dinner wasn’t that bad (food along the same line as what’s served at Medieval Times) and the show had a small Nativity complete with the 3 kings riding in on camels!!! AND THEN they had ostrich races! I want to race an ostrich, ok I’d fall off instantly and probably break something, but come on it’s an ostrich!!!

Have I ever mentioned that I enjoy vacationing outside the northeast? People down there were SO friendly and enjoyable, and hey so was I cuz I was on vacation!

Smoo was home the beginning of December for a whole week! Which was nice but I was so exhausted going around everywhere with him seeing everyone since he won’t be back for a while.

Then I went up to mom’s for a quick visit to see Dad before Christmas and to go dress shopping, and I thought I found THE dress… until I found THE dress in Seattle. Mom got sticker-shock when we were at a boutique in RI, but it was her first time out with me so I think she needed to get it out of her system before I completely fell in love with a dress.

Then it was the 13 days of my birthday, which ended on my birthday (no big party this year, too many things going on) when Smoo and Mom both came into town and we went out for dinner at Bond 45 (best homemade mozz EVER!) in the city and saw Les Mis (still love it, even though the female leads weren’t that great).

I actually survived Christmas week with mom’s entire family in Seattle, which included a lot of eating and seeing everyone. We spent a couple days with Grams and Gramps in Olympia, and had a day trip to Portland to meet up with Smoo’s family… and Smoo’s mother survived my mom!!!

Annie wanted to do the science center, so she went with Bro and Smoo. And I went dress shopping with mom at a boutique that has great reviews, and now I know why. They have HUGE dressing rooms so you can get a feel for the dress you’re wearing and when you find one you go over to the runway that’s lit perfectly and has mirrors along it so you can see how AWESOME you look and to see how the train looks. This dress is more than the one I saw in RI but mom didn’t have sticker shock since she picked this one out to try on and there were a lot of dresses over 5K there.

We made it home in one piece, Smoo and I stayed in for New Year’s this year, cooked food I bought in Chinatown, set off a confetti gun.

Hello 2007!

So far so good… best part was dress shopping last Saturday with Billy and Nikki (thanks for coming along!) and I found THE dress from Seattle for cheaper and without sales tax which makes mom happy.

Resolutions for the year:
1. Try to be less angry… going to be a tough one since the neighbors upstairs are complete psycho-morons.
2. Stick to my budget… it’ll help that Smoo won’t be all over the place after May
3. Read my books before I buy a ton more… 50 books in a year? Do-able.
