First, I would like to add my congrats! I hope it sticks!

This next part is partly to the above poster, rather than entirely for mel:
Not to knock the suggestion, just to shine a bit of the current reality about midwives in this city, which I suspect Mel already knows...

The waiting list for either the West Island birthing center, or the one near the Jewish, are so long, you basically need to be calling them before you pee on a stick to even confirm you might be pregnant, 2 weeks before you get your period... :-p I got into one at 28weeks, by fluke, because someone had to be transfered to a doctor. (or had a miscarriage) There are no other birthing centers in Montreal, and there are no midwives who don't work there, unless they do so illegally at their own risk.

If Mel hasn't called and tried to get on the waiting list for the west island one, that might be possible, but they have to be within a certain distance, or the midwives can't get there in a reasonable time, and so they won't take you at all... (I have no idea if they live close enough they'd be willing to take them, just putting it out there.) If you can get into LaSalle, Mel, take whatever appointment you can get, it's hard enough getting a doctor to see you at all, let alone a good one, or a good hospital.
