monterey is one of the most gorgeous places i've ever been.
well, we're living right outside monterey, in Castroville, the artichoke capitol of the world. her mom has the cutest little house ever. and we get to live in the sunporch.
we scored a ton of free stuff from her mom's coworker, including a full sized bed, including headboard and linens, plus a crockpot (clara! i need your daddy's chili recipe!!), a ricecooker, a ton of really cute dishes, and some other random things.
plus, her family has been so unbelievably amazing to me. i keep stopping to think what i've done to deserve their generosity, or more importantly, what i can do in return. they've just been so so so welcoming and warm and kind and generous. i don't even know what to say sometimes.
plus, katie's super obese, wonderfully queenie maine coon cat maynard sleeps on our bed every night. he's so old and arthritic that they had to buy doggie steps for him to get up on the bed. so in the middle of the night you hear this scratching on the covers and then maynard plops down on my feet. i kind of love him.
so, the search for a job begins... it's really hard without internet in the house, we're in a cafe right now, and tomorrow starts the real running around. we did the classic sunday paper circle the prospects with a highlighter route. but i still need to work on my resume and stuff too. grrrr....so so so much to do.
oh, and to make matters even better, katie is reading a personal finance book, and the only solution they have for someone not being able to get a cell phone because of their low credit score is that someone must have stolen their identity. ummm...right. I SUCK. fucking credit cards.
i miss everyone so much.
