I booked my tickets for the LIVE concert yesteday. They are playing at the Hordern, which is a nice average sized venue, on the 30th November. I guess I am going more out of nostalgia as I've seen them so many times before, it would seem wrong not to go again this time (and that is how they make their money!) Adam and his friend Ryan are going to come with me, so I'm hoping for a good night!
A sudden rush of social activity has quickly filled my usually bare calender for the next 2 weeks. Between Melbourne Cup lunches, a company conference and cocktail party, my trip back to Brisbane and my sisters 21st and the sports team end of season drinks, I am feeling exhausted just thinking about it. Add to this my first meeting with my new client, in the form of a seafood lunch onboard one of their lunch cruises (I take back any comments I may have said belittling them - bring on the cruise board client over any stupid theatre company anyday!!!!) ... and I haven't even started with the Christmas parties yet! So it is going to be a busy few months through until Christmas.
Speaking of which, we got sent the information from work about the christmas hampers which they give to all full time staff. Now, for 3 years I have sat up in Brisbane and watched the fulltime people around me go mad when the christmas hampers are delivered - whilst I sat back hamperless as I was only casual. So ever since taking this new job, I have been filled with excitement about the fact that this year, my turn will come to join with the stupidity that surrounds the ordering and delivery of the Christmas hampers.
Well, almost 4 years of excitement was burst in a split second yesterday when I received the hamper list and saw exactly what it was that was in the hampers. Now, I don't want to sound unappreciative as there is a few things there which will be very helpful come christmas, but there is also a lot of *crap* which I am sure is produce but once a year for the purpose of filling up hampers and baskets so real, edible food doesn't have to be used. So my ideal of the magical christmas hamper has been a little shattered and the more I think about it, the more I am convinced that the excitement that surrounds the hampers is just falsly manufactured by those who have one, to make those who don't feel like they are missing out on something. And perhaps that too is my destiny.
Well I better go and get ready. Steve is meeting some nerds in the city (and this by his own admission) to see a movie so I might tag along too - my busy social life doesn't start until Tuesday, this weekend I am still as friendless as ever ;)
