Educational Updates...

Ok. I've got a lot to be proud of lately and while I don't like to seem arrogant - I DO like to be excited about my accomplishments so here goes:

1) I've been accepted into Psi Chi (the Psychology National Honor Society). This will help me to look more appealing to graduate schools that I apply for.

2) One of the psychology professors at my university has agreed to allow me to do an honors special projects paper on any subject of my choosing for Fall Semester. It will involved long hours of research, writing and making sure that I do everything in APA writing format, but I am feeling up to the challenge and it will also look good on my graduate school applications.

3) I have been invited to participate in an honors field experience by working in a limited capacity at the local Rape and Sexual Assault Center. This will not only give me real world experience but once again will look good on my graduate school applications.

4) I am changing my graduate school major from Psychology to Social Work because the opportunities for work are better and broader as a LCSW than they are as a MHC. My current university has just started a Masters program in Social Work and the head of the program is very interested in speaking with me about staying at my current school and getting my masters degree through his program. I have an appointment to speak with him tomorrow.

5) I went to Nashville yesterday and interviewed an LCSW named Rebecca Lee who has been treating severe trauma patients, including many with DID for almost twenty years. I had a wonderful chat with her about her experiences - the highs and lows of being a therapist, etc. It was a very good experience for me and just convinced me more that I am on the right track for my own life career. She turned me on to some really good books for treating victims of trauma and I am very blessed to have had the opportunity to make a good friend in the field.

6) I've applied for several scholarships and while I haven't heard back from anyone yet, I was lucky enough to have my academic advisor write a very nice letter of recommendation for me for said scholarships. I am grateful that he was willing to take the time to help me in this endeavor. My advisor encouraged me not to worry too much about getting into grad school - especially if I choose to stay at my current school. The MSW program specifically WANTS people like me....mature and serious and as long as I continue to be that way there is little doubt that they will accommodate me in whatever way is needed.

In short.....I've never been so hopeful and felt so fulfilled in all my life. It's a good time for me so please celebrate with me my good friends! I'm throwing a virtual party and you are all invited! :-)
