euthanasia realities

My organization (AHS) made local news a few weeks ago when it received 120 cats from a hoarder in a mobile home.  Shortly afterwards, we again made news after the community was informed that all of those cats were euthanized.

It's quite true that trap/neuter/return is much less problematic in a climate like that of Los Angeles!

Given the situation with so many more animals than there are homes - shelters are forced into performing a sort of triage, deciding which can best benefit from what your resources can provide. I'm glad to hear the staff there is always thinking about ways to reduce the number of animals you have to euthanize.

Unfortunately, in most places we actively DENY euthenasia to dying people in pain who want a dignified exit. There is no "glory" in dying slowly in pain.

Frankly, if my "experience" was nothing but pain, I'd WANT someone to "deny" me that. It's called mercy. I value quality of life far more than quantity.
