Happy DNA Day

On April 25th, 57 years ago, Watson and Crick published their article in Nature magazine about the structure of DNA.  To celebrate the 50th anniversary (7 years ago), the US Congress established April 25th as "DNA Day".

Since my last gattaca post, the company that did my own dna testing has further specified my maternal haplogroup.  I am now ( Read more... )

I admit it. In "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe", I thought that both Mr. Tumnus (faun) and Oreius (centaur) were kinda hot.

Like Fry and Umbriel in the "Deep South" episode of Futurama, though, such ponderings do beg the question of mechanics. Not that the old stories bore any relation to biological reality, of course. I mean Zeus approached women as a swan, fer cryin' out loud. How exactly is that supposed to work out?
