...is OVER! And I still came out with both my arms and my sanity in tact. Kim Roy is like my new friend. We are sooo there duuude. Highlights of the LHYOF:
-This was my first administrative position in this festival and I come out on top super bright!
-A lot of people were impressed on how things ran due to the time/effort to make everyone feel welcome.
-The festival orchestra celli were amazing. Ashley, Anne, and I played Popper Requiem yesterday and it sooo rocked. We made people cry and got a standing ovation from the audience.
-More on the festival celli....seriously...one talented group of kids. Anne and Ashley I knew from the Kairos Lyceum...so they were already fab. But this other girl, Nicole, she's only 11 is already playing the Suzuki Book 6 - Squire - Tarantella (she learned the Vivaldi Concerto in D major...first piece in the new revised Suzuki books...you know the one I bitch about b/c it's really hard). I'm trying to recruit her for not only Kittitas Valley Youth Orchestra (since I'm director), but also as my own student. From what I hear...her teacher is some quack in Yakima (I never met her...but she sounds like a quack to me...guess I'll wait to meet her) and her mom is looking for more things for her to do. Bring her on over!
-Still more on the festival celli....wow...words can't express how much we did. I was glad to be a cello coach/faculty. It was rewarding to teach music theory and have them totally understand it (even Nicole!!). Soo many things covered...how to play thirds, sixths, octaves, sight-reading, discussions, etc.
-Room 308's parents got a talking to by many of the faculty and myself. I told them like it was and what their daughter's have been up to all week long. Mmmhmmm...let me tell you...they ain't happy droppin' like $500 or so dollars on their child so they can just have a free for all non-musical experience.
-
jsbachgirl subbing for Kim becoming "Faux-Kim"
-Good campers!
-After-hour drink with the past and current prep program directors (Heather DeHartt and Rebecca Reketty-Pelandini). I can't thank them enough for everything they have done and have taught me about this new position (with the KICK ASS OFFICE...ieeee!!!)
-
John Michel really thanked me a lot @ the concert which felt really nice. He really laid it on thick...I was kinda embarrased. I'm glad to be his new TA (or am I his TA??! I just might as well be...I'm there enough. If memory serves me correct, Dr. Jeffery Meyer, John Michel/Professor Carrie Rehkopf (John Michel's wife), Dr. Bret Smith, and Dr. Snedecker will be on my committe for the next two years...oi...that's a lot of people).
-It's all over!
Marrowstone = Tomorrow = TOTALLY AWESOMENESS. I'm going up there with
Dr. Mark Babbitt (he's the trombone prof here @ Central) I talked to Adam W. (from SIUE) on the phone when I called Stefan (
stefoon12) to see how things were going. It'll be nice to Adam again (maybe for the last time if he goes with Kangho to UCONN). Speaking of which...has anyone seen him??!? Is he still alive? Do we know who got the new temp job as cello professor @ SIUE?!? Someone keep me in the light here.
Just thought of something...I need to call Joel W. (
la_dancing_rein) because:
1) I miss him dearly.
2) I need to go shopping with him.
3) He must come to Marrowstone.
4) Anything else that I didn't think of
OOoo...and I need to call Christine (
sin_skin_bone back as well. I said that I would. It's 11:40pm my time...so that's 1:40am her time...eek!
I think while I'm at Marrowstone, I'm going to finish Harry Potter 5 (b/c I didn't finish it yet...even though I know what happens in Book 6), and make a list of what needs improving for next year's Laughing Horse Youth Orchestra Festival, and start studying for my grad entrance exams (I'm not too worried about the theory portion). You have to check out the
grad history exam...it's like Dr. Ho all over again (only Dr. Lipori plays the bassoon...hhahahhha!) He really has the same personality like Dr. Ho. Jokes are dry...and deep down inside they are all dirty little men (seriously....he's tiny...just like Dr. Ho). Pretty! Anywho, it's late and I need to leave this forsaken building.
