Summary: 5 times Kurt felt like nothing bad could happen, even if the situation was horrible.

1-

When he was a baby, his mother would sit in her chair and hold him in her arms. She’d rock him back and forth and sing to him while his dad sat in a chair facing them, newspaper in hand. His dad didn’t actually read the paper though because he was too busy watching his son smile like the woman holding him. The baby would always smile when his mom called him her “sweetie” and he would reach his little arm up to try to touch his mother’s cheek.

It was one of his first memories and the first time he truly remembered feeling safe.

2-

When his mother was in the hospital he refused to leave her side. He would even crawl into her bed at night if she were feeling better. He tried to act tough when she was awake but she always saw through his act. She never said anything though; instead she would wrap him up in her arms and sing to him until he was asleep. He would always wake up in the middle of the night and rest his head on his mother’s shoulder, the tears he fought all day finally falling.

Though he knew his mother was going to die, he felt safe lying on the bed next to her, her arms wrapped around him, holding him close.

3-

His mother’s funeral was one of the most painful things he ever had to go through. Watching them lower his mother into the ground broke him in so many ways. His mother was gone. Never again would she hold him and sing to him just because he asked her too. He knew it was going to happen but that didn’t make it any easier but then his father put an arm around his shoulder and pulled him so that his head could rest on his father’s shoulder. He missed his mother and the hole in his heart would never disappear, but there was one thing that made it okay; at least he had his father still and so long as he still had his dad, he felt safe.

4-

They still kept his mother’s things around the house and he was really thankful for it. If he had a bad day he would open all the drawers of her dresser and sit in her chair. He would sing the songs his mother used to sing to him and if he closed his eyes he could still feel his mother’s arms around him, her voice in his ear. He missed her terribly and the pain was always worse on days when nothing went right for him. He would sit in that room, singing those songs, until his father came home. When his father found him sitting in his mother’s chair, his father would walk over to him and pull him into a tight hug. They wouldn’t say anything but he felt safe with his father holding him and the smell of his mother around him.

5-

He hurt all over. He was certain that at least one of his bones was broken. The worst part was that the people who had hurt him were still surrounding him, laughing and calling him names. There’s a kick to his side and another to his leg. He’s on the verge of blacking out when the voices die down, only to be replaced by one singular voice.

“Back the fuck off.” On person opens there mouth and starts to complain but the new voice cuts him off. “I told you before, no one is allowed to touch Kurt.”

Another voice pops up. “Dude, what gives?”

There is the sound on a fist making contact with skin and then a thud as a body hits the ground. “You mess with my boyfriend, you mess with me, got it?”

He hears sounds of agreement before the voices start walking away. He let’s out a sigh of relief as he feels two strong arms pulling him close. “You okay baby?”

He wants to say something but his mouth won’t work so he nods. He’s in a lot of pain, but in Puck’s arms, he knows he’s safe.
