Title: Cemetery Meetings
Pairing: Pre-slash Kurt/Puck
Rating: PG-13, mentions of child abuse, very brief mentions
Spoilers: What happened with Kurt's mom and Puck's dad
Summary: Puck is at the cemetery for a funeral and runs into someone from school
A/N: This started out as something totally different and turned into this...

Puck had only seen his father once in the twelve years after he left and that one time was to watch them put him in the ground. He hadn’t wanted to go but his mother still loved the deadbeat and Puck didn’t want her to go alone. He didn’t make it through the service though. Everyone was saying such great things about his dad and it seemed that he was the only one who knew how horrible the man had actually been. Puck had been able to tune out most of it but as soon as his mother got up and started talking about what a great guy his dad had been, he had to get out of there. He tried to be as quiet as possible so his mother wouldn’t notice him leaving. It hadn’t mattered though because she didn’t take her eyes off of the coffin the whole time. She only had eyes for the man who had hurt Puck up until the day he had run away.

He had to get farther away. It had been twelve years and he still couldn’t get away from the memories of those nights when his father would come into his room and-

“I don’t know how much longer I can do this mom.” The words were soft and at first Puck had thought he had imagined them but they kept coming. “I try to act tough for dad but, it hurts.” Puck found himself walking towards the voice, wanting to know more. “I know dad’s tough too but if I tell him what happens at school he’ll break. Just like what happened after you died and I don’t want him to be that miserable again.”

As Puck got closer and closer the voice started to become a distant blur of a figure then turned into the back of a well dressed person and finally, the voice got a name. “Hummel.” The word was out before Puck thought better of it.

The small boy whirled around and stared at Puck. “Noah? What are you doing here?”

Puck shook his head. “Don’t matter.”

Kurt nodded. “Right. How much did you hear?”

“You talking about your dad.” Puck smiled at the pink shade that started to color Kurt’s cheeks. “That shade of pink looks good on you.”

The color got darker and Puck’s smile grew bigger. “Thank you?”

The two boys stood in silence until Puck moved so that he was standing next to Kurt, facing his mother’s grave. “Hi Mrs. Hummel. I’m the boy who’s made your son’s life miserable for as long as I can remember. I’ve slushied him, thrown him in dumpsters, bullied him, teased him and a lot of other horrible things.” Puck glanced at Kurt when he felt the younger boy’s head on his shoulder. “The only reason I’ve done all those horrible things is because of what my dad did to me when I was younger. I shouldn’t have taken it out on Kurt, but I did anyways and I’m sorry.” Puck turned towards Kurt and pulled the crying boy against his chest. “To both of you.”

Kurt didn’t say anything; he just tightened his hold on Puck’s shirt. They stood there until the sky turned dark and Puck’s cell phone started to ring. Neither boy wanted to part but they knew that they had to.

Puck flipped open his phone but still kept one arm wrapped around Kurt. “Yeah.”

“Noah, are you coming home?” In everything that had happened Puck had forgotten about his father’s funeral.

“Yeah Ma. I’ll be home by midnight.”

“Be safe Noah.”

“Yes ma’am.” Puck closed his phone and put it back in his pocket. He then focused on the boy who still had his arms wrapped around Puck’s waist. “And you.”

Kurt flinched and started to pull away. “I’ll go home. Thank you.”

Puck didn’t let go of Kurt. In stead, he pulled Kurt back to him. “Wanna grab some ice cream or something before you go home?”

The pink color was coming back to Kurt’s cheeks as he smiled. “Or something.”
