Castiel knew how much the necklace meant to Dean, but he really needed it to find God. The angel sighed as he watched the oldest Winchester sleep. He was going to make it up to Dean, one way or another.
Dean rolled over onto his side; his eyes open, staring at the angel. "What's wrong Cas?"
Castiel shook his head. "Nothing. Why aren't you asleep."
Dean shrugged his shoulders. "Can't sleep knowing something’s up with you."
Castiel felt a small smile forming on his face. "Nothing is 'up with' me. Please go to sleep."
Dean sat up in his bed, covers pooling around his waist. "You can't lie to me Cas." Dean patted the bed next to him.
Castiel tilted his head, but sat down where Dean had patted. Castiel turned his head to face Dean. "I am upset because you are not asleep."
Dean smiled. "In that case." Dean wrapped his arms around Castiel's waist and pulled him down so that they were lying next to each on the bed. "I'll sleep if you sleep next to me."
Castiel tried not to laugh, but in the end failed. So, with a smile on both the hunter's and the angel's faces, they slept.

Castiel did not understand why humans felt the need to get drunk because it was the final day of the year. It was not a big deal in Castiel's opinion. The only good thing about this was that it was a good time to give Dean the gift Castiel had gotten for him.
"What's up, Cas?" Dean nudged Castiel on the shoulder, bringing him out of his thoughts.
Castiel looked over at his hunter, "I have some thing for you." With that, Castiel reached into his trench coat pocket and pulled Dean's gift out.
It was Dean's turn to tilt his head. Castiel had a silver necklace in his hand, a cross dangling from it. "Why?" Is all Dean can say.
Castiel took a step closer to Dean, drawing the necklace around Dean's neck. Castiel's mouth was right by Dean's ear as he clipped the necklace closed. Castiel slowly pulled away from Dean, stopping when his face was barely a fists distance from Dean's. Dean smiled as he pressed his lips to the angel's.
The fireworks in the background just made their first kiss seem important, and Dean thought, "This is the way to start a new year."
