I read a chapter of Alice in Wonderland to Bryce's niece (she's six). I stopped every paragraph or two to make sure she knew what was going on. Here's a bit of the conversation:
Me: Who is the main character?
Six-Year-Old: Some girl. Al?
Me: Where does the story start?
Six-Year-Old: In a bank! (it was by the bank of a river)
Me: What was odd about the rabbit?
Six-Year-Old: He had a waist, and a coat, and he took out a compass (he wore a waistcoat and took out a watch)
Very cute.
