During the day I hear birds chirping and kids playing and at night I hear an occasional night bird and lots of crickets. The house next to us has a wooden wheelchair ramp and I hear the kids running. It's patpatpatPATPATPAT and then they are going the other way, PATPATPATpatpatpat. It's so cute! They never walk LOL. Once in awhile a kid will start crying and saying, "MOMeeee!" and it squeezes my heart. I want to run out and hug them and make it better but I don't because their Mom will do it.
I love all these sounds. I realized it's been a long long time since I lived somewhere that I could hear them. When I lived across from St Mary's campus I heard an owl once. There were these bugs in the trees (I think) that sounded like ducks quacking or something and I didn't like that. But mostly I've heard traffic wherever I lived. Or drunk people when I lived on the east side :) I'm happy that I hear the happy sounds around my house and make sure I take note of them. I don't want to start taking them for granted.
Last night I was walking from the garage to the house and a young girl next door was in her yard and complaining that the crickets were too loud. I thought to myself that she will miss them if she moves. She won't even know it till she hears the crickets again and then she'll say "Oh yeahhhhh I remember that!"
