Talked to Lynn (from the Colorado Mountain Ranch) today. I am now officially the head cook for the coming summer. Orson will most likely be my second-in-command (if I have my way), though surprisingly Sam is not going to be wrangling next summer and may be in the kitchen with me as well. If so, that would be awesome: with both Christina and ( Read more... )

A few things you probably already know, but that I'd like to reiterate for you:

1. Gail is your friend. If you need anything at all, from a fan for your room to a new piece of equipment for the kitchen, for god's sake, go to Gail and not to Lynn. haha

2. Negotiate for your own room. You deserve it, and Scott and I got both to have our privacy when we were head cook.

3. Ordering and not running out of food are the main things that will be hard for you at first, because I did all the ordering and most of the quantity measurements last summer. The old order forms are in a manilla envelope on the top shelf of the kitchen bookcase. Look through them and see what we usually ordered every week and in what quantity. Don't be afraid to ask the order rep to clarify if you're unsure what something is or how much food it is.

4. You're more than welcome to borrow all my cookbooks for the summer. Hopefully I'll see you in a couple of weeks for San Antonio, but if not, I'll still send the cookbooks back up to Emory with Mama and Daddy. Text me to remind me.

5. I have a cellphone that I can answer even at work. If you ever have a crisis in the kitchen or can't remember something, please don't hesitate to call me at anytime.

6. Don't be afraid to say no to Lynn when she asks for absurd things. She'll pout, but she'll also get over it. haha

I'm going to miss the ranch dreadfully, but you'll be fine in the kitchen, and I'll come up a weekend or two to see everyone. I'm planning to come in for the first wedding, which I believe is on June 28th.

Love you! You'll rock the kitchen.
