Ok, so it's been awhile since a real update. I've got some valid excuses: Megan's wedding, New Year's, and then being plagued by a cold for the past couple of days. I feel marginally better, much thanks to tea, several good books, a rather comfortable couch, and a nice warm fire. Definitely no thanks to the lousy cold medicine we have. I'm generally not one for pills, as they generally don't do anything about the colds themselves, just the symptoms. But when things start interfering with my sleep, I feel the need to take some measures. Surprisingly, the antihistamine I took Monday night due to some bizarre allergic reaction I was having made me feel better and helped my sinuses than the supposed decongestant I had taken two hours prior.
It's nice to be home for a little vacation. This is the first opportunity I've had to really slow myself down after getting home from Drew a couple weeks ago. And what's the first thing that hits me? A cold. Naturally.
I finally have all my grades from this past semester. The Drew system is much different from Colby's -- at Colby, all the grades would show up at once on a pre-determined day. At Drew, the students get to see them as they come in, which is nice in some regards, but very frustrating in others. Not that I highly doubted what I would be getting, but there was one class that could have gone the other way. Perhaps at some point I should really start listening to everyone who tells me "you'll be fine!"
But let me backtrack a bit and talk about post-Christmas happenings.
I did end up going down to Massachusetts on Monday the 26th. I got there in time for dinner...and for the Patriots game! Woo! We watched it...but I definitely grew tired pretty quickly. I was staying in the living room on the couch though...which meant the television was there as well since Ben's grandmother was in the other room. Which meant...I had four guys in my bedroom until the game was over. (There -- I said it. Are you happy? :-)) But we ended up turning the game off before it was over since it was obvious that the Pats were going to win.
I also got an unexpected gift from Ben's grandmother - a pair of earrings to go with my bridesmaid's dress! I was very touched by it -- and they went with the dress very well.
Tuesday morning Ben and I set off for Pennsylvania. The trip went off without a hitch, and we didn't get too lost when trying to find our respective hotels. A brief nap for me ensued before it was off to the rehearsal! The rehearsal was the rehearsal, and it was so nice to see Megan and Melissa and Nico and Rick. The dinner was loads of fun, and Megan gave me an absolutely beautiful communion chalice that she had made.
The next morning was quiet before arriving at the church at 12:30 to get dressed and take photos. The bridal party got to entertain Megan to make her laugh, which was a lot of fun. Before the ceremony, I got to see Karen and Emma, which was great! The ceremony was nice, despite the pastor repeatedly interjecting certain theological statements into it. I was glad when Megan made a statement of her own during the reading of the UM Social Creed in the hymnal.
The reception was nice, and I was glad to have some time at the end to hang out with just the bride and groom, Karen and Emma, and Ben. The downside to this whole trip was that I lost my cross necklace -- at the rehearsal dinner all the women participating got gorgeous necklaces to match our dresses. Unfortunately, I stuck my cross into the box after I had put the purple necklace on...and all the boxes were the same. Fortunately, someone did pick it up, and it will be returned to me.
The trip back was terrible because of the rain. I probably freaked out more than I should have once Ben took over driving...I still maintain I had reasonable cause. I-84 isn't the friendliest of highways, especially with many cars and much rain. But we got back safely, and that evening I ate out with my family and Andrea and her son Justin.
Friday was spent sleeping and Saturday morning was laundry day. We ate out at this place called Chicago Dogs that sells all manner of hot dogs. Then, it was back to the house for an extremely quick packing job before heading up to spend New Year's Eve in Richmond with the Freys and assorted others. It was fun -- good food, good friends, good times. Only 4 of us managed to survive the turn of the New Year...and then it was off to bed.
Sunday morning was Green St. It was fun to make a surprise visit! I ended up helping to serve communion, which was fun, because I had never done it before there. Afterwards, it was time to go back to Richmond where I watched the Patriots game during Patsy's party...and then it was time to come home.
And since then, I've had a cold. And I've been arguing with Ben for the past 20 minutes about "most" and "infinite." Gar! You can't limit infinity! If one person says "I have the most of something" and another person says "I have an infinite number of somethings," then obviously, the person with the infinite somethings has more! I'm tempted to drag his brother into this conversation....
