I love the UMC; there are so many good things about it...it's just this messy stuff that makes me want to go start up my own denomination. :-P

Hold that thought. Once you have your MDiv and a congregation that really loves you, you might be able to do just that. I've certainly considered it.

doesn't the church need more reconciliation, and less division and partisanship? It seems to me that the early church - you know, the one that converted the known world - was the acts 2 church, and it was very centrist. Maybe we should combine the methodists and the congregationalists, instead? That might help with some things...?

You're very right. The church needs reconciliation badly. I've never been so aware of a potential split though than I have been recently and it grieves me so much.
