"The proper perspective of a servant of God must not simply be as near to the highest as he can get, but it must be the highest. Be careful that you vigorously maintain God's perspective, and remember that it must be done every day, little by little. Don't think on a finite level. No outside power can touch the proper perspective."
I was reading from My Utmost for His Highest today, and the first paragraph of today's devotion really struck me. Especially the line, "Don't think on a finite level." It appeals to the mathematician/physicist in me.
But more than that. I know it sounds cliché, but it's the whole "don't put God in a box" idea. I don't know how many times we are told that, yet we still need that constant reminder. God's means are beyond ours, God's thoughts are beyond ours...God in any possible way we can conceive God is beyond ourselves.
(On a complete side note, that makes me think of Anselm's argument for the existence of God, but that's a tangent...)
God has the ability to do things that we can't do. The only thing we can do is keep our mind open to God's leadings, to have a Godly perspective in the world, and not try to keep God in the God-box. Break down the fences in our mind and open ourselves to the infinite.
