*hugs* Sorry to hear you can't get the furniture you wanted. Hopefully once the baby comes you'll be so focused on him/her that you won't even think about the furniture. As far as gestational diabetes goes, from what I understand, it means lots of doctor's visits (which you do anyways) and controlling your diet even more. Definitely manageable and I'm sure your baby will be fine :)

Gestational diabetes basically means your body isn't processing sugar well, so it stays in your blood and urine. Essentially you would have to further limit sugar intake (and what the body perceives as sugar) and the Dr. would watch you for high blood pressure. They may up your vitamin dosage to make sure baby is getting all the needed nutrients. Baby may have a higher birth weight (the 16 lb. one in the news a month or two ago was a result of gestational diabetes) but that's not a certainty (and 16 lbs. is *not* close to normal.) Anyone who's even slightly overweight before pregnancy is at risk for gestational diabetes - so a *lot* of women get it and everything turns out fine. The main risk occurs if it isn't treated, since untreated it can harm the baby - but that is not going to be an issue for you.
