Not a bad Monday...

Now that my cold is pretty much gone I'm actually able to accomplish things, which is nice. AND my cataloging teacher gave us an extension on our project for tomorrow, so as long as I get my manuscript essay and activity done tomorrow, the week will be set.

I painted a picture of Savannah (my kitty) as a fairy kitten. The painting is fine, except I cannot for the life of me do a background I'm happy with. I've painted her on a cloud, on a log, on an acorn, in a flower... the list goes on. I hated them all! So instead of finishing like I TRIED to do, I decided to move on for now and start the painting I really want to do.

My ultimate goal has always been to produce as realistic as possible-looking figures in my paintings. I have totally made progress from when I started painting in June (thank god!), but I'm so far from where I want to be that I sometimes get very frustrated. My last two fairies pleased me a lot when I did them, but now I look at them and see a lack of shading grrr. Anyway, after looking at Linda B's site (www.furiae.com-- which I'm totally obsessed with now, btw), I've been dying to try out her tutorials and spend months on this thing if I have to, to get one painting that looks realisitic. My muse obliged and gave me the concept-- The Butterfly Sorceress. I started with the hair last night, and it's progressing well, though I stupidly decided to make her hair black, which is soo much harder to paint *sigh*. But I think it looks realistic... I followed the tutorial as best I could, then eventually started messing with the hair on my own. Maybe I'll post the WIP to the FAE critique forum once I finish the face... anyway, off to do more hw and work on her some more!
