Trip to NYC for my Birthday (04/03/06)

Apr 06, 2006 22:32

So let me tell ya about NYC. It was great!

We (my dad and I) left at about 1:30pm for NYC. I was nervous about going because they were predicting rain. I don’t mind rain at all, infact, I love rain but it’s my dad who hates it. Anyways so we get to NYC at about 3pm.

The first thing we did is go to Jekyll and Hyde restaurant. 3pm was the perfect time for it because only three other families/friends were there lol... so it was completely empty. Last time we went to Jekyll and Hyde on Christmas, there was a wait of an hour and a half outside and then an hour inside lol. So we lucked out. That restaurant really is amazing and I recommend it to everybody. The food is good and everything but the atmosphere is the best. As soon as you walk in, this skeleton mirror image thing starts talking to you and then all the lights go out and the ceiling starts coming down. It’s really creepy! After we sat down and ordered, etc. these creepy, weird men come out and start embarrassing you basically. Then like all the wall images of werewolves and mummies, etc. start talking. They kept picking on this one kid with an afro and made him dance to “Thriller”. Thank god that wasn’t me!!! For me, they kept yelling at me because they said, “YOU’RE HAIR IS IN YOUR FOOD! THAT’S DISGUSTING! DO YOU LIKE TO EAT HAIR?” I swear my hair wasn’t in my food but whatever. This one guy kept brushing my dad’s head and my head with this dusting thing. I must say, it can get annoying when they’re doing all of that when you’re eating but it’s still fun. I’m going there again in June. The pictures below are from Jekyll and Hyde:

After the restaurant we went down 5th Avenue. I was trying to find this place with all this Marylin Monore stuff. I think I found it. However, the prices were insane. Therefore, I went to Barnes & Nobles instead. I bought Backstage (it’s an acting/auditions newspaper… I love it) It started raining, but luckily we brought an umbrella. Then we went to Jamba Juice… which is the BEST PLACE EVER! I love it! http://www.jambajuice.com/ I got the Pina Colada smoothie. Yummmmmy! Then we went to the tickets place to see tickets to a broadway show. I couldn’t believe how many shows were sold out! RENT, Chicago and 3 others were the only ones not sold out. Plus a bunch of off-broadway ones. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to see RENT or Altar Boyz. I stuck with RENT since it’s my love and it was my birthday. We got such great seats!! Center, Orchestra, Row M. Talk about luck!

Okay moving on to RENT… The show was amazing of course! The downfall were these idiots in front of me. It was this couple who, first of all, came late. THEN they were talking all through Act 1. AND eating candy and ruffling papers. ALSO kneeing this guy and elbowing his lady. Like hello? And they kept looking at eachother like, “This isn’t Phantom of the Opera!!” Get a life! And as soon as Tom and Angel kissed, omg, they ran for the door. THANK GOD! As soon as Intermission came, everyone surrounding me was talking about that couple. We were all like, “THANK GOD they are gone!” And the sad thing is…. They didn’t even know they were being rude! BUT ANYWAYS… Most of the cast was new so it was nice seeing a whole fresh cast. Matt Caplan was back…. Actually he never left but he was GREAT! Hilarious! Justin who plays Angel was so funny. Infact the best part was during La Vie Boheme when Angel was like, “Who died?” and Benny said, “Our Akita” and the rest of the cast said, “Evita!” and Angel said in the deepest man voice, “UH OH!” it was HILARIOUS!!!!! I nearly peed in my pants… seriously. Anyone who knows the show gets what I’m talking about. Antionique was great as Mimi… very different since she has such a deep voice... but she was great. Plus I love her, especially since she knows me lol. Tim as Roger was pretty good. He’s cute! Very raspy though. Haven as Maureen was pretty good too. No complainants about anyone though. The pictures below are from RENT:

Adam Pascal and I… unfortunely it’s only a picture. I want to marry him!

Tim Howar and Matt Caplan from RENT (aka Roger and Mark)

Me and Crystal Monee Hall from RENT (She plays Mrs. Jefferson, Seasons of Love soloist, etc.)

Me (I look gross) and Destan Owens from RENT (aka Tom Collins)

Me and Marcus Paul James from RENT (He plays a Christmas carlorer, Seasons of Love soloist, etc.) We also bumped heads and we were both like, “OW!!!!” and he’s like, “We’re bumping heads! Sorry”

Me and Haven Burton from RENT (aka Maureen)

Me and Antonique Smith from RENT (aka Mimi). I absolutely love her! She’s so cute and she was so impressed with my camera lol. It was a digital camera from CVS and she was all like, “A digital from CVS? Technology these days! OMG that’s awesome!” Then she had to help my dad with the camera lol. AND she remembered me from her message board and wished me a Happy Birthday. :-)
