As Ravenslost points out: NOT OK!

Hershey Chocolate is planning on closing the Scharffen Berger plant in Berkeley.

For those of you that don't live in the area, this is a fabulous piece of Bay Area history.

The building itself has a colorful past: it survived the '06 quake (despite being made from brick) and has been everything from a munitions plant to a pickle factory before becoming the home to the first European style chocolate in America.

Despite having a profitable year, and promises to not interfere with the Scharffen Berger brand when they purchased it, Hershey has announced that they will be closing this factory. I know I don't speak just for myself when I say this place is always on the must see list for my out of town guests.

I don't know anything about starting a petition, but I know you can email, or snail mail the Hershey CEO, David J. West at the info below.
