After two weeks spent cursing Martín through his answering machine for ignoring him, Luciano showed up on his doorstep vowing to break in through the window if he had to. As soon as Martín opened the door and recognized who his visitor was, he tried to slam it in Luciano's face, but not before Luciano managed to wedge a foot next to the jamb.
"C'mon, just let me in," Luciano pleaded. "You can't just ignore all my calls and then expect me to sit around twiddling my thumbs until you decide to contact me."
Martín's hair was a tangle of gold, falling limp and dirty in front of the smear of bruises around his eyes. His breath was shallow and his skin was frighteningly ashen, and when he turned around without a word, Luciano frowned at the way his shirt hung from his too bony shoulders. He followed him to the kitchen, where Martín pulled out a single glass and filled it with water, leaning against the counter while refusing to look at Luciano.
"So...how are you?" Luciano asked, wrinkling his nose at the sharp odor permeating the air around him; Martín hadn't smelled this bad since the war.
Martín snorted, opened his mouth to say something, but then must have thought better of it because he bit his lip instead, staring at his glass. His hands shook faintly, and Luciano wondered if he would feel his heart racing if he pressed a hand to his chest.
"Martín-"
"Get out of my house." His voice was low and gravelly, almost too low for Luciano to hear.
"Hey, you don't have to take it out on me-"
"What part of 'get out' do you not understand?" The glass slipped through his grasp, shattering on the ground with an ear splitting crash. "Damnit!" He bent down and began scooping up the shards, slicing his fingers open and dripping scarlet across the tiles.
Grabbing his wrists, Luciano yanked his hands from the mess, holding tightly even as Martín struggled against him. He was too weak for Luciano's liking, and it made something flip nastily in his stomach. Granted, Luciano wasn't feeling at his top either, but Martín...Martín scared him. He pulled them both up so they wouldn't fall on the glass shards and pinned Martín against the counter with his arms behind his back in a parody of a hug.
"It's all gone to shit," he heard Martín hiss through clenched teeth. For a few seconds he considered what he could say to him to make it better; when he came up with nothing, he squeezed his arms around Martín and hid his face against his shoulder.
