Choose a verse of the song (one or two or four lines, whatever makes sense), gimme a Latin Hetalia character or a pairing and I'll write you something.

Also, if I know you from Tumblr but not here, friend me!

Falling Away With You - Muse

I can't remember when it was good
Moments of happiness elude
Maybe I just misunderstood

With all their history, Martín feels like he probably shouldn't do this, like he should stand strong on principle even though they're technically allies now. That he probably shouldn't feel like he's crumbling, like Luciano's persistence and, God, Luciano hasn't really done anything besides be incredibly annoying, but he's still eroding Martín's resolve piece by piece.

And this should not be happening because it's Brazil for Christ's sake; it's Luciano. How do the two most powerful countries on the southern half of the continent interact without tearing each other apart? Martín still feels like he's walking blind into the bear cave, but at least he's getting the hang of it now since that first meeting. Well not the first first one, but the first one since...well. That was in the past.

At the not really first meeting, Martín gritted his teeth and tried to keep the pieces of his sanity from spilling over his tongue as Luciano stared in apparent boredom at their miniature crisscrossed flags in the center of the table. The Brazilian's leg bounced in agitation, and Martín could practically feel the movement jolting in his teeth. After five minutes spent wishing he could kick Luciano under the unfortunately too wide table, he finally slammed his pen down on the glossy wood, drawing disapproving looks from their bosses.

He didn't bother explaining himself to them beyond a shrug and a stare, but Luciano had stopped fidgeting, which was the ultimate goal. However, he had begun staring at Martín with his mouth quirked in something that might have been a smile had it not been so tight. His eyes were a tired reflection of Martín's own, and he didn't look as...hostile as Martín would have expected. And Martín had to admit that maybe he wasn't as good at predicting the future and people's actions as he thought he had been, but he knew that Luciano was with him, maybe like no one had been in years.

That was just the beginning, the first crack in the glass. Martín couldn't have guessed that Luciano might break him down so thoroughly, and without even meaning to. There is finally peace, or something like it at last, but Martín still feels like he needs to stay on guard before there is nothing left of his dignity.

Nothing left like when Luciano sidles up to him in a meeting and brushes a hand along his arm like it's completely normal, and it is completely normal now. Or when Luciano calls him up in the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday just to say hello, and then Martín can hear the pout in his voice when he says he has to go.

And maybe...maybe it wouldn't be so bad to let this happen. Maybe if he keeps it on his terms, he won't fall too far.

Luciano radiates warmth, even when he's shivering and complaining about the heat in Martín's house in the middle of winter, so it's more out of practicality than anything else that Martín let's him curl up against him, but only when no one else is around. It's fine like that because he can still kick Luciano out for drooling on him in his sleep, and he should do just that, but he doesn't, so Luciano takes this as permission to completely disrespect Martín's personal space. At first it's just kisses on the cheek, which are nothing really, but then it's his temples and his shoulders and the top of his head when Luciano is leaning against him on the couch. Then Luciano thinks that it's alright to hold his hand under the table at meetings and rub his feet against his calf. Still, while Luciano's lips and fingertips might burn his skin, they don't herald the end of the world, so Martín doesn't make a big deal out of it. He tells himself that he's still in control.

Some things haven't really changed. They still scream and argue and throw punches, but when Luciano decides that he can end a fight by biting Martín's lips, Martín realizes that maybe he needs to reevaluate what 'in control' means. Maybe, he whispers against a dark nest of hair as they both gasp for breath in the suffocating heat of his bedroom, he needs set Luciano straight as to what's going to happen between them now.

"So what do you think is going to happen between us?" Luciano asks him, tightening his arms around his waist with a smile, flattening his sweaty palms against the small of Martín's back.

Martín doesn't feel like answering that right now, choosing instead to distract Luciano with another kiss.

Ahaa I knew I wasn't crazy! Cuz I read this version of your fic by my email, and then I read it at tumblr and thought I had missed a part hohohoh

But, anyway, everything's just so sweet! I love when Martin tries to hide his love & passion <33

And this last line "maybe if he keeps it on his terms, he won't fall too far" made me go all awwww <33 It's simple and straight and lovely, cuz he's totally trying and failing to control himself.

And, about the extra part you wrote at your tumblr, I was amazed to see how he never admits what's going on. I mean, he starts thinking about how they got to hold hands and sleep together, but you only mentioned the kiss at the end. For me, it made Martin look like he was even more "falling away" <3

Actually, I just saw I misunderstood everything D:

But it's all my email's fault, and my comment remains valid, so you please just ignore my noobness, okay?

Tons of hearts to you <333

I'm glad you liked it! Martín is so obvious when he's in denial. <3

(Ugh, LJ has such silly comment limits. Sorry it confused you!)
