What a perfectly gorgeous weekend: A SUMMARY

Friday night, Dave and I had time to watch a movie after we went grocery shopping. We NEVER have time to do that anymore. Shopping was due to the lack of groceries plus the fact that we had planned a hiking trip with some people the next day.

Saturday morning we got up and picked up our buddy Ian around 10:30 and drove to an awesomely gorgeous park that we recently discovered but until that day, haven't been able to explore a whole bunch. There, we met a couple of our friends, had a sack lunch at the picnic tables, and headed off to a fun filled day of hardcore hiking. I'll bet we hiked about 3 and a half to 4 hours straight and covered maybe 4 or 5 miles. But we did stop and look at a lot of scenery. Did I mention the weather was gorgeous?! Now I get cold pretty easily by nature, and the high that day was only 67. So, whenever we were sitting down eating, I had to wear a sweatshirt and light jacket, but it was IDEAL weather for hiking. I wore my jeans and a T-shirt, wrapping my sweatshirt around my waist in case I got cold. It was sunny and the air smelled good. We got to see this really cool waterfall that rolled over a convex platform. As it poured down the platform, it seemed to be moving in slo mo. I wish I could have videotaped it. It's like nothing I'd ever seen before. Definitely going back! We actually are planning some winter hikes.

After the long hike, we went back to the picnic area, got ourselves a shelter house, and our buddy Bryan made burgers on the grill that were A-MAZING. He put seasonings and stuff on them. Dave and I threw in various potato chips/pretzels, and potato salad, and Ian brought some baked beans that we cooked over our camp stove. After eating, we had just enough daylight out to hike an easy quarter of a mile or so to a landmark called Lover's Leap. There weren't any lovers leaping that we saw (LOL), but there sure were plenty of rocks, sticks, and huge logs taking the plunge, courtesy of the guys! Well, they had fun. But I did point out that they were disrupting the natural humus. LOL. We then parted ways after returning to the cars and got home around 9:30. My kind of day.

Sunday morning came around and, even though I work out every day, and pretty vigorously when I do, I was pretty darned sore. So, we ended up going to church and I skipped the chores because I felt crappy, both physically and I felt like I had a tired headache all day. Dave, bless his heart, still vacuumed the carpet (and I gave him my sore throat/cold). And I did take out the trash. But the boatload of laundry is still there, waiting patiently for me to get to it today after work. Fun! So, we got some Indian food after church, watched a couple of movies, and did some Bible reading.

What I loved the most about this weekend is that we got to do some outdoorsy things with friends, but I still had a day with my husband in which we actually relaxed and had time to recuperate before starting the week. And I'm proud of myself because I forced myself to relax. So often times I get it in my head that I have to get everything done at once and I just drain myself and stress myself out. I mean, I work 8 hours a day, work out an hour a day, I have a husband to take care of and a household to maintain, and chores are constant (like the laundry and grocery shopping. it never ends!). Bills to pay, cats to clean up after, etc. Plus, I still have to find time for a social life. Sometimes, the stress brings me down and I can get so tired that I get sick pretty easily, though the workouts have surprisingly given me boosts of immunity and energy than what I had before, which is why they are so important. The week before this past week was a prime example. I was up every morning at 5 or 5:30am, went to work, and for whatever reason the chores were abundant after work, probably thanks to having just passed Labor day weekend and I was off that Monday from work, no where near home. I did get quite a bit down and sick. Not fun. But anyway, I'm proud to have waited to do the laundry tonight instead of yesterday, when I was able to relax. K! That's all on this end.
