Have you ever betrayed someone's confidence? Has anyone ever betrayed you? Write a ficlet ont the theme of betrayal.
Once upon a time there was a Goddess, and this Goddess was married. To the King of her Pantheon’s underworld, no less. He made her happy, and the pair loved each other like typical storybook lovers; more than any mortal, God or beast, can ever comprehend, or so the story goes. The Goddess, though beautiful and terribly charming, had a troubled history, but it was one that she was learning to come to terms with. Her gracious husband helped her do so, and what was gone soon became less disheartening to think about. Despite past downfalls, matters seemed to be improving for the Goddess, and she had a lot of hope for what would come in the future.
However, a shady figure from her past came across her one day, when she was alone. He clad himself in her husband’s skin, spoke with her husband’s tongue, touched her with her husband’s hands. there was no reason to think that he was anyone but her husband, and so she led him back to her bed, to show him the love she felt for the man she’d married.
But of course, that was not the man she’d married.
The Goddess soon discovered the truth, and it made her feel rotten inside. What was even worse than knowing she’d been used was finding out that the bitter union had created a child, small and kicking in her belly. It was all too familiar, it was history repeating itself. Her father had her once, and she had bore a child, and now he’d had her again, and once again, she would give birth to one of his children.
I was the product of that union. Zeus betrayed her, his daughter, Persephone by deceiving her. He betrayed her as a father, as a God, as a friend, and my mother has to live with the burden of that knowledge forever. We both do.
