...to discover that merely electing a black president who's smart and concerned about the plight of the common man is not enough to change everything in 6 months.
Frank Rich: "Is Obama Punking Us?" Wherein he talks about the fact that Americans are realizing our free market system is rigged, that it's rigged all out of proportion to what we thought, and that Obama hasn't fixed it in six months.
I refuse to be shocked that electing Obama and a Democratic Congress has failed to fix problems that have been brewing for 60 years.
Dear America:
Congratulations, you've managed to think for yourself on one issue (i.e. the bank bailout). The problem is: You're going to have to continue to think for yourselves or stuff like this will happen again. You can't go back to watching the news for 10 minutes and thinking you're informed. Even doubling your news intake to 10 minutes each of Fox and CNN to get "both sides" is not going to work out.
You're going to have to read a variety of sources, remember what you were told a week ago, and amass the facts in your minds. You're going to have to think creatively about solving your own problems as well as the country's. If you want things to get better, you're going to have to invest some time and money into making them better.
Don't worry. The more you practice, the easier it will get.
Best,
Melinda
P.S. Read a book!
