Some intriguing thoughts about making a movie out of the story of the downfall of Numenor. Interesting...

Well Jackson was thinking of doing 'The Hobbit' and I would be intrigued to see if they did a movie showing the rumored insanity of Thurandil(sp?), how Sauron went from being a well loved and lordly Elf King to the Source of All EVILLLLLL, as well as when Aragorn was in The White City before and his courtship of and eventual loss of Finlaudis to Denethor as well as his meeting of Arwen. If it was done well I'd go see it.
Of course having Sean Bean in it wouldn't hurt either.

The rights to The Hobbit are tied up legally, so it's a whole different matter right now. I'm not sure what you mean about Thranduil -- I never heard rumours of his insanity :) Sauron? He was never an elf or an elf-king -- he was always a Maia, and servant to Morgoth. I don't find his story especially interesting, myself.

I think Aragorn's journeys would make an interesting story or set of stories -- I don't think they would work especially well as films, especially as Viggo is too old to play Aragorn at that age, and I'm not very interested in seeing someone else in the role. BTW, he never really "courted" Finduilas -- that is fanon -- he had met Arwen and was already in love with her before his journeys, at the age of 20. I don't believe he had the intention of staying in Gondor long enough to marry anyone, though the idea of a flirtation (I don't see it as anything more) between them is an interesting one I've seen explored in a few stories.

I was always under the impression that Sauron used to be an elf. Which I always thought was interesting since they were considered the, 'Wisest and Fairest'. Hmmm. Wonder where I got that from. ::ponders and grabs books::
As for Thranduil, same thing I always got the impression from the books that he wasn't quiet right. As in mad as a hatter. ::grabs more books::
I think Aragorn's journay would be the best to explore too but again I don't want to see anyone else in the part.
It would be wrong.

He was never an elf - he did have a fair form, when he presented himself to the Elves as Annatar. He was probably as beautiful as an elf. But he was always a Maia. Until the destruction of Morgoth's power, Sauron was in his service; it was after that, in the Second Age, when he got creative and went into the ring-forging business.

As for Thranduil, same thing I always got the impression from the books that he wasn't quiet rightThe only time we really see Thranduil is in The Hobbit, and like many things in The Hobbit, he's different than the Elves we meet in LotR. Then again, so is Elrond. I don't think he was "mad" in any fashion -- he always struck me as a stalwart leader sticking it out in an increasingly hostile environment. He was surely a very competent tactician and war-leader, to have kept his kingdom safe for as long as he did. My the middle to late third age, he ( ... )
