This is just a ridiculous category. I hate trying to compare things that really aren't comparable. How do you compare
Bartlet's rant against God to
Xena and Gabrielle being crucified while Caesar is murdered? Or
Michael and Nikita finally being honest with each other with
Jack Bauer shattering into tiny pieces? Or
Adama being shot by Boomer with
Giles following a trail of rose petals to find Jenny Calendar? Or
Jake Sisko dying in his father's arms to
Joan asking the Doctor if anyone would have died if he hadn't shown up?
So. With the caveat that this is a pretty absurd exercise! I decided to pick something from Highlander, which, after all, was a close first-runner up as my favorite show ever. And the scene I finally picked was
Duncan and Methos in the gardens in Forgive Us Our Trespasses. It has everything I love in a scene -- layers and layers of subtext, something important at stake, and dialogue that reveals character. It has honesty and snark. And a great ending you don't really see coming. With extra added snark.
I also love the way this scene (well, the whole episode) is directed by Paolo Barzman, Highlander's second-greatest director (after Dennis Berry).
I did not love trying to make this choice!
(Taking tomorrow off. See you Monday.)
