Eeeeeee!! I just got back from the premiere of There Will Be Blood! Where Daniel Day-Lewis also was! With Paul Thomas Anderson! And I saw them from up close! And took pictures of them!
Hmm. Too many exclamation marks. :D
This post is dedicated to
friendofcows, who has her birthday today. Happy birthday girl!
I apologize beforehand for the quality of the pictures. As it turns out, my camera is crappy, and my Photoshop skills are close to nonexistent. I did what I could to brighten these up.
So the premiere was held at the "Pallas" theater, which is one of the biggest and most luxurious theaters in Athens. I was running a little late, because I had an exam earlier (it went well BTW) When I arrived at a few minutes to 20.00, a LOT of people were there. Audience members waiting to get inside, the people organizing this thing (I recognized the chairman of the charity organization and the president of the Athens International Film Festival), photographers and journalists, policemen and several bystanders. No red carpet though.
I was determined not to get inside until DDL and the gang showed up, so I stayed outside and froze my ass off. Did I mention that the temperature these days is very close to 0 Celsius? Anyway. I was out there, with my crappy digital camera in hand, until at around 20.20 they showed up! At first I spotted Daniel, who was wearing his trademark getup of black /white flowery shirt and woolen red jacket. This one:
But no hat! I was floored the minute I saw him, he had all this aura of awesomeness around him. He was AMAZING. My camera decided to be a bitch and the pics I have from when he was in front of me are completely blurry. He was accompanied by his wife Rebecca Miller (who is REALLY pretty). Right next to him was the director Paul Thomas Anderson, in his trademark getup, "suit and black coat". And let me tell you, he's is very, very handsome and cute. I was surprised to see that his girlfriend Maya Rudolph was there as well. For those of you not familiar with her, she is a very funny comedian, and she is a cast member of Saturday Night Live. Here's a picture of her (she's in the middle, next to Anderson):
So DDL and PTA hurried past the photographers as they were greeted by the people in charge of the event. They chatted with them, while the photographers were calling "Daniel! Daniel" so he would turn around. They talked and talked and talked.
After that, Daniel got PTA and together they posed for the pictures. Not for long though, half a minute maybe.
At that point my camera did some weird shit, so I lowered it and looked up. DDL was looking around at the photographers and then he looked in my direction. How I managed to not freak out, I do not know. Out of reflex I smiled at him. He must have figured I was a fan (because you don't see photographers with Olympus compact digital cameras). He smiled back at me.
*DED*
Afterwards, DDL got Rebecca by the hand and they all got inside the theater. I so wanted to walk right behind him and stalk him, but I chickened out and let a minute pass before I walked in as well. Once I was inside and took my seat, DDL and PTA did a brief introduction to the film, and then it started. After the film there was a Q&A section, they answered a lot of questions about the characters, the historical timeframe, even about Iraq and parallels between the main character and modern powerful men, as far as greed goes. And there was a LOT of applause, in different occasions.
Exiting the theater, I came to the following conclusion:
OFFICIAL MOVIE PREMIERES ARE AWESOME. AND DANIEL DAY-LEWIS IS KING OF ALL THAT IS AMAZING IN FILMS.
That is all.
PS: As for the film itself, I haven't decided whether I like it or not yet. It was... intense. I need to think about some elements a bit more. Excellent direction and photography, though. Day-Lewis was a madman, exceptional, absolutely fantastic.
