Vague career wishes
Today I made a list of things that I think would satisfy me about a career. Excuse the verbal awkwardness, but I will copy it exactly as I wrote in my notebook:
- importance of work - unique impact on society
- technical work satisfaction
- "useful"
- neither antiquated nor bleeding edge
- moderate turnover time - not necessarily instant gratification/satisfaction, but not something that'll take 10 years...
- contribute new material to an already existing body of knowledge
Things that I purposefully did not remark on:
- extent of management - so far I can't really say whether or not I would like a supervisory role, develop people, organize people into teams to reach a common goal, etc.
- industry - so far I'm pretty open, but it might most likely be the energy industry, since I'm already in it.
