It’s been five days and no phone calls nor any messages from Hyun at all. This time is Yong who is feeling the anxiety. How did she manage to turn it around like as if he is the one who has to apologize? He unknowingly slam the book he was holding onto the table.
“Someone is in a bad mood.” Yoona roll her eyes at him.
“I am not.”
“If you say so.”
“So, have you seen Hyun?”
“Hyun? Nope except Jessica was complaining to me that Hyun has been coming home pretty drunk for the past few days.”
“Ya! That woman! Drinking too much is bad!”
Yoona pats Yong on the back, “Why don’t you tell her yourself then?”
“Because...”
“Because?”
“Nothing.”
“Nothing?”
Yong sigh.
“It’s just that something happen last week and I was mad at her. So I have been kind of been avoiding her. But somehow, it has turn into her avoiding me instead and now it feels as if I am the one who is in the wrong.”
Yoona’s both eyes widen.
“You? Jung Yong Hwa mad at Seo Joo Hyun?”
“Yah, mad at her.”
“Omo! Pigs must be flying.” Yoona laugh.
“Ya!”
“Okay, okay!”
“So then just call her back.”
“She was pestering me the first few days then suddenly there was no calls or texts anymore and..”
“And you miss her.”
Silence.
“Jung Yong Hwa, you have been pinning for her since 3 years ago. Of cos you will miss her. She is a part of you.”
Silence.
“But maybe it’s time to move on? It’s been 3 years after all.”
Yong sigh.
“It’s easier said than done. She is not someone that I can easily just throw into the cupboard, lock it and throw the key.”
“What about the nice looking girl you have been having lunch with?”
“Geu Roo? She is nice, that’s all.”
“Hmmm..”
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“Spill.”
“Seriously nothing. Just that you should keep an open mind that’s all.”
That’s what I have been telling myself, Yong thought as Yoona walks off. His phone rings and excitedly he picks up without even looking at the caller ID thinking it’s Hyun.
“Seo Joo Hyun!”
“Seo Joo Hyun? Who is that?”
“Huh?”
“Yong oppa, this is Geu Roo.”
“Oh, hi Geu Roo. Sorry about that.”
“It’s ok. Ermm... so are we on for dinner tonight?”
“Dinner? Oh yah, sure dinner tonight.”
“I know this place in Apgujeong. They serve nice food. It’s called Gorilla In The Kitchen.”
“Sounds good.”
“Meet there say around 8pm?”
“Sure.”
And he got himself a date tonight but how come keeping an open mind makes him feel miserable.

The soft clanking of spoon meets the mug echoes through the pantry as Yoona absentmindedly stirs her coffee. How time passed so fast and touching her fourth finger where her engagement ring is, Yoona still can’t believe how happy she is. Talking to Yong makes her reminiscence about her past.
She grew up in the orphanage and because she is pretty much a tomboy, she gets along more with the boys more than the girls. She was much happy running around and kicking ball on the field than playing dress up or cooking.
One day she was walking through the park when she saw a group of boys kicking another boy who was already on the floor. One black eye and a couple of bruises later, the two who became fast friends held hands and walk home together.
From that day onwards, the two were inseparable. But because Taecyeon comes from a wealthy family, his mother does not really approve of Yoona so they normally meet outside to play. Years pass and they two attend high school together and although the two are of different social circle, but it does not matter for they will always meet after school at their favorite playground to catch up for the day.
It was a fine day when he asked her to be his girlfriend and they have many happy times sitting under the starry nights holding onto each other.
On that night, the car was headed towards her direction but he swerved the car so that it will be coming towards him instead. I love you was his last words after he push her out and the deafening sound of metal against metal surround the night. He was killed instantly. She blame herself.
For one year, she fell into depression and was like a shell just walking through life. Then she started to drink to numb the pain away. On the anniversary of his death, she was sitting by the harbour and then she close her eyes and let go. The cold water hit her but she did not feel the coldness that filled her lungs.
An angelike voice calling her, waking her up. She open her eyes and there was Jonghyun, who happen to see her jump. Day after day he visited her at the hospital and although she did not say much, but was grateful for his company.
When she recovered, he offered her a job at his company. A small little photography shop that was open by him and his best friend. They can’t really afford to hire anyone in fact and Yong was pretty against the idea but Jonghyun stood his ground. He encouraged her to cherish life and move on. Slowly she recover the pieces of her that was lost. It was definitely encouraging to have friends even Yong who was resistent in the beginning, warmly accepted her as well. She was only Im Yoon Ah previously but now she is Im Yoon Ah, the proud wife to be of Lee Jong Hyun.
“Penny for your thoughts?” arms wrap around her.
“Just reminiscencing.”
“About Taecyeon?”
Yoona nod.
Jonghyun turn her around to face him. He look into her eyes and kiss her lips lovingly.
“Happy thoughts only.”
Yoona smile.
“I am. I will always loved Taecyeon for he made me but you,” Yoona kiss him lightly, “shaped me.”
They embraced and thank their lucky stars that they have found each other.
Jonghyun was worried when he saw Yoona space out in the pantry, kind of reminds him of how she look like that night when she jumped.
He was slightly more blessed than the rest of them as he still have a father that lives in Busan. His father sent him to school in Seoul and there he met Yong who was the resident rebel in school. They became fast friends and Heechul and Hongki came into the picture after a tussle between both sides.
He was on his way home but later than usual because Yong went off in a hurry to see Hyun. It was a funny sight, the school’s resident rebel knocking off early so he won’t be late to meet his girlfriend. Then he saw her. The light illuminate her, a lonely soul sitting by the side of the harbour. He was captivated by her presence when she suddenly fell into the water. Without any hesitation, he followed suit.
He still remember how lost she look sitting in the hospital room and somehow he was drawn to her. He offered her a job at his and Yong’s new established company although Yong protested but Jonghyun was insistent. Jonghyun even offer her a room at their place. He just wanted to help her get on her feet.
He did not know when he began to want to hold her hand or that his stomach feels like it has butterflies fluttering in it. But he choose to put aside that thought and continue to be her friend. One fine day, when they were eating lunch, Yoona just kissed him. She told him that she like him and wants to be more than just friends. When they came back holding hands, Yong rolled his eyes and told them it’s about time.
They were blissfully happy and recently he proposed to her. They have bought a place of their own and will be moving over once they officially become Mr and Mrs Lee.
“So what were you and Yong talking about?” he tighten his hold around her as she lay her head on his chest.
“The usual.”
“Ahhh...”
“It’s been a long time.”
“It has.”
“I always wonder how come he is so attached to her. What is her hold on him?”
“Just because...”
“Just because?”
“Just because he loves her.”
“That simple?”
“Yup, as simple as you and me. Just because I love you.”
Yoona smile.

He was standing outside the restaurant waiting for Geu Roo when raindrops began to fall. He has been playing with his phone the whole day since his talk with Yoona. Willing for it to ring or beep but at the same time relieve that it is not. It’s been 5 days and 3 days are their maximum time ‘away’ from each other. He miss her badly but he needs to move on or so he keeps telling himself.
She was standing at the corner of a restaurant when it started to drizzle. Her phone has been an extension of her hand for the past few days. Keying in that one number she know by heart and then erasing it as if by doing so, she can erase the feeling of hurt. It’s been 5 days and she miss him like crazy. It’s crazy but she has been drinking every night since that day when she saw him with her, hoping that it will dull that ache in her chest. She wonders what is he doing right now.
The cold breeze blows and sends a chill through their bones. It was exactly like this 4 years ago when their story began.
