1. Have you ever stayed in a hostel? If so, where? Did you like it? If you haven't stayed in a hostel, would you?
Yes, when I was in Oz. Also briefly in San Fran. It's definitely an experience for the open-minded. It's a great alternative to save on accommodation and if you're travelling solo because you get to meet a lot of different people. The Lonely Planet guides are more or less a good rule of thumb, but don't go with 5 star expectations anywhere.
2. What is your favo(u)rite airport that you've been to? Why?
I enjoyed the International lounge in HK. It's exclusively for in-transit int'l flight passengers. I indulged in a comp massage, showered and sampled the snack cafe (also comp) while waiting in transit for my 11:30pm flight to Brisbane.
3. What is the best museum you have visited on vacation?
I liked the Met in NYC. It's SO big! I thought the Asian Art Museum in San Fran is probably the most Zen. I walked through when it wasn't busy and it was so serene. I've never been surrounded by so many Buddhas of different styles, shapes and sizes, it was very awe-inspiring. I found the plush Astro Boys on sale in the gift shop amusingly cute.
4. Have you ever made friends while traveling whom you keep in touch with on a regular basis?
Yes, when I travelled to Hobart. I exchanged contacts but unfortunately haven't picked up the slack since meeting!
5. Have you ever had a conversation with a seatmate on a plane?
Yes, when I was trapped in a window seat next to a new father and his 2 month old in the bassinet in the front row. He was a really nice guy - Cdn, and his baby didn't cry during the whole 8-9 hr flight to Bris-! I still should've asked for an upgrade though...
