My torrent of last night's episode of Merlin came with subtitles. In French. Except for the magic bits, which is how I now know that the magical language everybody speaks, despite sounding rather like Elvish, is in fact Old English. Because if you're the Arthurian court, and your archivist is Geoffrey of Monmouth, of course Old English is the magical language of the ancient sorcerers and priests of the Old Religion. This makes complete sense. And nobody's butchering it at all.
