Not writer's block...

but the fervent desire to get this book "right" is making writing said book difficult. It's not that I've forgotten how to write, or I don't know what happens next (because I never know what happens next, though I do know what needs to happen at some point). There's just something keeping me from going at this turbo speed, the way I begin (if not end) most of my novels. I am hoping that the speed part will come at the end, not least because this is the first time I know for certain exactly how the story ends. Well, this book anyway. I already know that this is a trilogy, and maybe that's what's getting in my way.

Or maybe, just maybe, it's because I'm writing about things religious and apocryphal and a wee bit biblical, and I don't want to fuck up a mythology I don't see as being "mine." Blaspheme? No problem. Get the source material wrong? No. Just... no. And yes, I just figured that out while I was writing this post.

Well, be that as it may, I managed to finish a chapter tonight, and that's one more chapter than I had before, so I'll take that wee bit of progress and call it good.
